It's International Educator Week!?????? We are so lucky to have such a dedicated and hard-working Education staff here at the Aquarium! Members of the Education team come from multiple countries and have diverse educational and experiential backgrounds. Every day, educators share their passion and curiosity with guests in meaningful interactions to inspire the Aquarium's visitors. The Education team shares the Aquarium's mission with students throughout Utah and with the Aquarium's visitors through structured and informal programs. In the 2023-2024 school year, the Education Department visited almost 80,000 students and 3,000 teachers at over 600 schools across Utah! In 2024 to date, educators have engaged nearly 600,000 guests in experiences like Nature Storytime, learning stations, demonstrations, and presentations. We want to thank them for all they do at the Aquarium and for our surrounding communities. ????

Assemblies and campus-wide events can be overstimulating and overwhelming for autistic students. Consider these alternatives: - Host smaller, quieter meetings throughout the day instead of one large one - Offer alternatives, like live streaming of the live event - Reduce your students’ uncertainty by explaining the event prior to attending - Provide assistive technology, like noise-canceling headphones, to reduce sensory overload. While many students enjoy pep rallies and other school-wide events, it’s important for administrators to make accommodations to ensure that all students feel comfortable and included.

The students of Cambridge Stage 1 at Mayoor School were highly engaged throughout the lesson on the parts of a plant. They actively participated in discussions, hands-on activities, and demonstrations. Their enthusiasm and curiosity were evident as they explored the fascinating world of plants. Activities: - **Planting Seeds and Germination:** Each student planted a seed in a small pot. This hands-on activity gave them a practical understanding of how plants grow from seeds. - **Leaf Rubbings:** Using crayons and paper, students created leaf rubbings to explore the texture and veins of different leaves. Discussions: The lesson included engaging discussions where students shared why plants are important to us, how each part of the plant helps it grow, and foods that come from different parts of plants. By actively participating in these activities and discussions, students developed a deep understanding of the parts of a plant and their functions, enhancing their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning about the natural world. #plants#partsofaplant#cambridgecurriculum#learningbydoing#funlearning#Mayoorschool#kindergarten

At a time of division and misunderstanding, World Walker, LLC, champions a worldview where diversity is celebrated and empathy is nurtured through transformative travel. My journey to creating World Walker, LLC, began nearly 20 years ago, when I was only one of a few Black students on three separate study abroad?trips as?an undergraduate student. Those experiences abroad opened my eyes to new ways of thinking, a deeper understanding of self, and instilled a lasting empathy for people of all backgrounds. My transformative experiences abroad revealed a need to address disparities in study abroad access, especially as Black students represent nearly 13% of college populations but only 5% of those who participate in study abroad programs. Driven by this opportunity gap, I dedicated a decade at the University of Texas at Austin to championing international experiences for underrepresented students. During my tenure, I helped take over 650 students abroad, over 85% of whom were underrepresented students, and nearly 60% were Black. When Texas passed SB17 in 2023, banning DEI programs at public universities, I launched?World Walker, LLC?to ensure that global education remained accessible. This past spring, my team and I led 42 students on a life-changing trip to Japan, in partnership with UT’s Global Leadership and Social Impact (GLSI) program. Shortly after, GLSI was banned, reinforcing the urgent need for independent, equity-driven opportunities like those World Walker provides. In March 2025, World Walker will embark on two exciting spring break trips to Japan and the United Arab Emirates, open to students from Texas and across the nation, instead of one specific university. At a time marked by division, fear and misunderstanding, these trips aim to bridge cultural gaps and broaden student perspectives, championing a worldview that embraces diversity on a global scale. By empowering underrepresented students to experience the world firsthand, World Walker, LLC seeks to inspire change, personal growth, and a future in which global education is accessible to all. Over the next few weeks, I'll dive?deeper into World Walker, LLC and how you can get involved. My First Internship Experience Reflection of September Initially starting the internship, everything seems to be daunting as I am presented with information about a wide variety of IT-related topics I have little to no knowledge of. The first few presentations and demonstrations have broadened my understanding of what IT does and how crucial it is for organizations to function.

Practical work is an important part of science which is not neglected when teaching science online. We have various methods such as online teacher demonstrations, on-screen experiments and simulations, YouTube videos, which allow our students to learn and understand the key concepts of practical science. We also use online simulations to allow our students to collect data for analysis. We reinforce our students’ knowledge of practical procedures by using diagrams, quizzes and exam style questions. Our exam boards do not require examined practicals but will have exams that require knowledge of practical experiments, all of which is covered in our lessons. Our teachers maintain currency in their teaching, in that we constantly look for opportunities to consider new developments, as they come into the public domain via the news and other media sources. #ScienceEducation #OnlineTeaching #PracticalScience #StudentEngagement #TeacherDemonstrations #OnlineExperiments

I was mentioned in Gallaudet Today for my IDMA cohort and my contribution to the Global Fair on what it's like for deaf people here and abroad in terms of low-income to high-income countries. Turns out high-income countries doesn't necessarily equate to better access for deaf people, or that deaf people have poor access in low-income countries. It seems that socio-political-economic realities for deaf people is more complex globally than normally assumed and depends on much more than a country's productive capabilities. The article in question begins on page 44.
