This week's winter weather is closing in quickly. Is your landscape ready? Here's a winter weather checklist to help you prepare: - Move potted plants indoors and cover immovable plants with cloth frost blankets. Avoid plastic coverings as plastic conducts cold. - Water your plants ahead of the freeze (ideally 24 hours in advance) to give the roots extra protection. Water is a great insulator: wet soil is warmer that dry soil! - Add mulch around landscape plants to insulate the roots. - Disconnect water hoses & protect spigots if you haven't already done so. Some plant species are more susceptible to cold damage than others. Keep a close eye on these common local species: sago palms, fig ivy, star jasmine, gardenias, rosemary, cyclamen, and oleander. If you suspect freeze damage after the freezing weather subsides, give us a call. Our arborists can assess the situation and create a recovery plan for your landscape.
