While administrations may change, our calling remains. The need remains. President Elect Trump has promised that under his leadership on Day 1 he will halt all refugee arrivals to the United States. If enacted, these policies will alter the course of hundreds of thousands of lives and will be a tragic injustice for people who have fled conflict, persecution, and violence. We’re going to be doing all we can to fight against these changes and continue advocating for compassionate public policies guided by biblical principles. We have a bold and steadfast plan to continue in our mission in the midst of adversity. But make no mistake, we need your support. In the delivery plan (2024-2026) for the New Scots Refugee Integration Strategy, published on 5 July, outcome 4 focuses on communities in Scotland understanding integration interculturally and respecting the diversity and strengths that New Scots bring. Some of the shorter term outcomes identified are that New Scots have improved social connections within society and across communities, improved confidence in using English and that their cultures are respected, celebrated and thrive. It states that there are plans to invest in community initiatives which build on existing good practices and address key priorities identified through the community consultation and/or which support those groups whose needs have already been highlighted. https://lnkd.in/g-fEBMbZ

Refugee Week Ireland takes place between the 17-23 June 2024 and you can find all the information about it here https://refugeeweek.ie/ Amidst all the negativity surrounding immigration, seeking international protection and being a refugee in general, Refugee week is a great opportunity to showcase , highlight and celebrate the various contributions of refugees in Ireland and around the world but also an opportunity to simply celebrate refugee's humanity and existence. As Poet Warsan Shire?says " No one leaves home unless home chases you fire under feet hot blood in your belly. You have to understand, that no one puts their children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land. No one leaves home until home is a sweaty voice in your ear saying leave, run away from me now I don't know what I've become but i know that anywhere is safer than here." I can confirm , and as we should all know as a nation of great migration is, that no one choses to leave their home and everything they've known unless there is a promise of something better. This refugee week, let's celebrate with refugees by giving them a space to acknowledge and celebrate their lives and past homes and ensure their current homes are safer. We can all do something in our own capacity to celebrate refugee week by choosing to stand brave in solidarity with Refugees everywhere and most especially those in our communities, work and neighborhoods. A TALK membership is not required, no registration is necessary, and sessions are open to the public of all ages. You don't have to be a “bona fide philosopher” to participate in these stimulating sessions. If you enjoy listening to people delve into the topics providing their own, often controversial, perspectives or if you have insights or ideas to offer, you will enjoy these sessions. TALK’s Philosophers’ Corners start with a featured presenter who provides a 10-minute introduction to the topic. All sessions are moderated to limit discussion to one speaker at a time and to ensure everyone gets a chance to speak if they wish. A Philosophers’ Corner is the ideal place to share your thoughts and listen to others’ points of view.
