As the market gets busier with more FTB and Homemovers too, please read this, not everyone is aware. One of the most irritating aspects of being a mortgage broker is speaking to clients who, having found a property they love, try to book viewings etc and the estate agent or developer tell them they HAVE to use their in-house mortgage broker to get an Agreement in Principle to proceed! Tip: this is not legal. You're free to use ANY broker you wish and they aren't allowed to stop you from NOT using their recommended firm. They will, I'm sure, push things to the legal limit of how much they can say, however for First Time Buyers particularly the message comes across very different, and they believe they have to go with them. To the guilty: STOP IT. It's not ethical even if it's legal, and it paints you in a very bad light. Not to mention that often the brokers concerned are not independent and can be limited to a panel of lenders...
