Is your work a reflection of both your character and circumstances? Loewen Cavill was a curious kid, set on figuring out how everything worked—from ants to transistors—and making friends with everyone she met. That fuel took her from MIT’s mechanical engineering program into startups. But only when life intervened did it all click. Menopausal symptoms stripped Loewen’s beloved aunt of her life energy. She did the math: A massive portion of the population— with the most experience and wisdom to share—was getting sidelined by menopause. Loewen knew how important this problem was, not just for older women suffering from it, but for the long-term health of capitalism. She founded Amira, a startup focused on improving menopausal women’s quality of life, starting with sleep. While it’s still early (they’ve raised a $3M seed round), Loewen has an incredible vision activated by a talented, caring team. Her character met her circumstances. Helen Keller said, "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved." You came with your character. Now, what’s the plot? What circumstances are revealing your character in your work? #Innovation #Startups #WomensHealth #WomenFounders

Momease Solutions is a start up company reimagining the breast-pump bra.. You know how I always say, differentiate or die! Well, here is their differentiation.. -Women-owned -Science-backed -Mother-designed Their story: Their story begins with a mother seeking a simple solution to make pumping comfortable and convenient. Momease Solutions was founded in 2021 after Ashley Mooneyham, Ph.D gave birth to her first baby. Dissatisfied with her breast pump experience, Ashley sought a solution on the market, grounded in science, to aid her milk collection. With no luck finding an existing product, Ashley sketched the first concept of the Momease pump-enhancing bra. Ashley recruited co-founder Jennie Lynch —a nonprofit founder with a career centered around child development and family well-being. Together, Jennie and Ashley encompass the founding team at Momease Solutions. They are proud to be a woman owned company designing products and solutions for women. They have gotten lots of publicity. Check their website for a video on the home page. And what is MN Cup? MN Cup?is a community-led, public-private partnership supporting Minnesota's entrepreneurs. I’m so excited to announce Seven Starling's $10.9M Series A led by RH Capital, as we further advance Seven Starling’s mission to reduce the stigma around women’s mental health and ensure that every woman has access to the high quality mental health care she needs, when she needs it. ?? As a new mom myself, Seven Starling’s mission is deeply personal. Today, 1 in 5 women experience a perinatal mood and anxiety disorder during the pregnancy and postpartum period, and over 75% of those diagnosed never get treated. In addition to all the typical challenges of accessing mental health care like long waitlists and affordability, new mothers are also balancing taking care of a newborn, disrupted sleep, feeding pressure, and enormous stigma surrounding their mental health. Most of all, women lack a tailored and accessible solution that *just gets it*. ?? We founded Seven Starling to be *that* safe, easy, and supportive place for women to seek and get help through every life stage. Since launching, we’ve treated thousands of patients with our specialized clinical model, with over 90% of patients seeing a clinically significant improvement in their symptoms upon completing the program. We’ve done this in partnership with over 1,000 OBGYNs who trust us as their go-to mental health referral partner for their patients. In parallel, we’ve stayed committed to making our services affordable through broad in-network coverage with health plans. I’m thrilled to share that we’ll also be expanding to Medicaid this coming year. ?? In my roles as mom and CEO, I am so proud of the Seven Starling team and my co-founders Sophia Richter and Julia A. Cole for achieving this important company milestone that enables us to treat many more thousands of women as we continue to expand across the US. We’re thankful for our patients for trusting us during their most vulnerable moments in their lives. And we couldn’t have done it without our exceptional team of clinicians and physicians whose hard work and dedication improve the lives of so many. ?? We are so grateful for our incredible group of investors who recognized the opportunity and the massive impact of our mission. Thank you RH Capital Pear VC Emerson Collective Expa Magnify Ventures Inflect Zeal Capital Partners Ulu Ventures Fiore Ventures March of Dimes Rogue Venture Partners Graham & Walker Wisdom Ventures Four Cities Capital. At a time when only 3% of health tech venture funding goes to women’s health and 2% of venture funding to all-female founding teams, we’re proud to have you on our cap table. ?? And most importantly - huge shout out to the Seven Starling founding flock who make magic happen: Amy Roskin MD, JD Ceili Cascarano Chase Martin Marissa Managhan Melissa Adams Hallie Savage Kate Naylor Suleq Gure Imani S. Kelly Snyder Nazaneen Homaifar. You all are the dream team and I’m eternally grateful to get to learn and work alongside each of you.?We're just getting started!

One in five women will experience a mental health condition in the months before or after giving birth, yet most do not receive any form of support. Magnify Ventures is thrilled to participate in their Series A and excited to see them scale. Seven Starling, Tina Keshani, Julia A. My friend Edwin Ong of Asian Hustle Network and I had the incredible privilege of interviewing Tammy Sun, the founder and CEO of Carrot Fertility. Tammy and her team have raised more than $115 million to help employers, health plans, and health systems provide comprehensive fertility care benefits to people globally.?Here are a few lessons from her journey scaling Carrot: ? Storytelling is a core component of innovation. ? The best way to build something people want is to listen to your customers' problems. ? Choose a problem you want to work on where you have a personal connection to the issue, especially in healthcare. ? In the early stages of fundraising, focus on discovering your early believers instead of convincing people to care. ? Different stages of company building can require different employees. ? The CEO acts as a culture’s pacesetter. Check out the full piece in the comments!

Most of the entrepreneurial moms you know have silently defied expectations and forged their paths. As a ‘female’ entrepreneur (even though I hate that word, I can’t deny that the rules are different) , I've always been about breaking stereotypes and pushing boundaries. Yet, one misconception that persists is the idea that pregnancy and motherhood should be straightforward, especially for women in the entrepreneurial world. However, my journey has shown me otherwise. In August, I delivered my precious son, Shiv, via C-section—a moment of immense joy and fulfilment. However, as any entrepreneur knows, the demands of business don't pause for parenthood. Just two months later, with Shiv exclusively on breastfeed, I found myself on a flight to Mumbai for Shark Tank India. Add to that the responsibility of caring for a newborn, and the complexity doubles. I knew I had to make it work, not just for the sake of my business, but for my own sense of empowerment as a mother and entrepreneur. Preparing for my pitch on Shark Tank India while ensuring Shiv's well-being became a balancing act unlike any other. It was a testament to the dedication and perseverance required of entrepreneurial mothers, who often find themselves juggling multiple responsibilities with grace and determination. This experience taught me the sheer strength that lies within every mother-entrepreneur?? It also highlighted the urgent need to challenge societal norms and expectations surrounding motherhood in the business world. As we strive to normalise the realities of being a working mother, sharing our stories, supporting one another, and paving the way for a more inclusive and understanding environment is the least we can do for all mothers in entrepreneurship. Let’s break down barriers and redefine what it means to thrive both personally and professionally?? . . If you found this post insightful, don't forget to follow me for more stories and lessons about entrepreneurship. Ps. If you're interested in having me as a speaker at your college, office, or school, I would be honored to share my insights and experiences with your audience. Simply send me a DM, and let's make it happen! #richakapila #entrepreneurship #motherhood

Motherhood is a journey that starts long before a baby is born, it begins the moment a mother learns she is expecting. From that point on, every decision she makes revolves around the well-being of her unborn child—paying attention to her diet, activities, and even her posture. This commitment doesn't end with childbirth; it evolves, requiring even greater care and dedication to ensure the baby's health and growth. In much the same way, many believe that meeting their business's legal requirements stops at registration. But that’s just the beginning. After registering your business, the next crucial step is to file its annual returns. Failing to do so can result in your business becoming inactive, along with potential penalties for delays. Just like you would nurture a child, it's vital to keep your business in good standing by fulfilling its legal obligations. Get in touch with us today to file your business annual returns @08136775999. 10 Parallels between Entrepreneurship and Pregnancy On my journey as a parent, I have come to observe striking parallels between pregnancy and entrepreneurship. Below are 10 insights that can enlighten budding entrepreneurs about the realities of the entrepreneurial journey. Conception Phase: 1. Just as pregnancies can result from both planned fertility treatments or spontaneous conception, entrepreneurial ventures can stem from crafted business plans or spontaneous, innovative ideas. 2. Like the conception of a child, entrepreneurship often begins with the seed of an idea that carries the promise of future development and success. 3. During the conception phase, both pregnancy and entrepreneurial ventures require nurturing. This involves careful planning, research, resources and refining of business concepts to support growth and viability. Pregnancy Phase: 4. Similar to the uncertainty expectant parents face during pregnancy, entrepreneurs must navigate a myriad of uncertainties, including market fluctuations, competition, and unforeseen challenges. 5. Pregnancy involves periods of adjustment as the baby develops and the mother's body adapts. Similarly, entrepreneurship requires continual adaptation to respond to changing market dynamics. 6. Both pregnancy and entrepreneurship entail managing risks and challenges. Whether it's health complications or threatened miscarriages during pregnancy or financial setbacks in business, navigating these obstacles requires resilience, resourcefulness, and determination. 7. Expectant parents often experience a rollercoaster of emotions, ranging from excitement and anticipation to anxiety and fear. Similarly, entrepreneurs ride an emotional rollercoaster characterized by highs of achievement and lows of uncertainty, doubt, and setbacks. Delivery/Birth Phase: 8. This phase is often accompanied by discomfort. Similarly, the birth of an entrepreneurial venture demands perseverance, as founders labour to bring their vision to fruition. 9. The moment of delivery represents the culmination of pregnancy, marking the transition from anticipation to reality. Similarly, the launch of a business venture is the moment where the idea is brought to life and introduced to the world. 10. Just as the birth of a child heralds new beginnings for a family, the launch of an entrepreneurial venture opens doors to challenges and the possibilities for growth and success. Wishing all aspiring entrepreneurs success as they embark on the challenging but rewarding journey of entrepreneurship. #LinkedIn #Entrepreneurship #LifeLessons
