I heard a fascinating insight from a London Symphony Orchestra member last week, and it hammered home an important truth about music: trust.??? Sound travels differently depending on where you are in the orchestra. ??? As a member of an orchestra, you cannot hear the full sound of the orchestra as it sounds to the audience – you’ll hear those closest to you first, and those furthest away from you last. This makes it very difficult to understand how you fit into the bigger picture. ?? ? So, what do you do???? You need to dial down the trust you place in your own ears and instead trust in the ears and experience of the conductor and first violin.??? I think there are very few occupations that require this form of trust – where you need to partially discard one of your own senses and instead trust in the sense of another. For students applying for music scholarships to private schools, demonstrating their ability to trust and work with others is crucial to setting their scholarship application apart. So, if you have a child applying for a music scholarship, think about how they can demonstrate trust – extracurricular activities outside of music are relevant too! "Over 300 primary school pupils can now read and write music, thanks to top music school" In a pleasant suprise for a normal Wednesday in January, our video has been featured in Classic FM today. ?? This is such a heartwarming project which makes a huge difference to local children. It's amazing to see the programme getting so much recognition and hopefully paving the way for primary schools across the UK to replicate this model. Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC) launched the two-year School of Music project to make music lessons more accessible in schools and to allow children to express themselves creatively, regardless of background. Find out more about the programme in this video. ?? Video and editing by Charlotte Barnes

BRAVO! The NSW Inquiry report from the Joint Select Committee on Arts and Music Education released in December made 30 recommendations to reprioritise arts and music within schools, the creative industry, and across society. We look forward to seeing this develop across NSW this year through increased funding in sequential arts and music programs, increased support for teacher training, and a comprehensive Music Education Plan for NSW to improve standards.
