I've discovered that the secret to creating an unstoppable force lies in recognizing and harnessing the unique strengths of each team member. Just like in sports, every player has a specific role to play, and even the best athletes make mistakes. The key is to place each person in a position where they can shine and contribute to the team's overall success. Hiring managers and leaders, take note: ?Identify the superpowers of your team members and match them with roles that allow them to soar. ?Transform mistakes into powerful learning opportunities, helping your team members grow and evolve. ?Be fearless in repositioning team members when needed, ensuring they are in the optimal role for their skills and the team's victory. ?Communicate the vital importance of each team member's role and show unwavering support, even in the face of setbacks. What is a team? This resonated with me as I ask that question a lot. I was with a group this week and we discussed just that. We delved into the differences between a group and a team. Then together we pondered the phrase; A great leader's job is to turn a group into a team’. If only I had a great photo like that to accompany my thoughts. The enemy of every team is division. Division can seep in, in many ways. Through people who only care about themselves. And through team members who feel disengaged and disenfranchised. The core job for every manager, leader and organisation is to unify their team. There are many variables to this. Vision, leadership style culture and so on. But the core variable is the quality of relationships. Relationships are in constant flux. In every moment. We either get closer to each other. Or we grow apart. It matters because it determines how much trust we hold in each other. Lack of trust means we don't share ideas that could create breakthroughs. We don't tell others when they're about to make mistakes. And they lead to poor decisions and disengaged teams. When we can't talk about it together, we turn on each other. It's not always as visible as in the video clip. But it doesn't mean it's any less damaging. Silent conflict can fester for years undermining everything else you do.
