At SureCall Contact Centers, we pride ourselves on giving back to our community. Recently, our team assisted Hull Services by painting picnic tables, removing old paint, and trimming bushes. We learned that annual painting is necessary due to wear from children and sun exposure, and that the maintenance team is busy with multiple properties, often relying on volunteers. The experience was rewarding, especially learning about support programs for individuals away from home. Savage Sisters Recovery, Inc is Worth Saving. Our landlord, Shift Capital LLC is refusing to renew our lease. We met with Councilwoman Lozada a few weeks ago & she opened the meeting by telling my staff & I that her goal was not only to remove Savage, but all harm reduction, from Kensington. The new enforcement model is outdated and goes against all evidence based practices. These new policies & programs will have lethal consequences for our community and we need to work together now more than ever. Since opening the storefront we have: Served 16,640 friends at the Storefront 13,400 friends through outreaches Reversed 324 overdoses Conducted 170 street based clean ups Provided 664 friends connection to treatment As well as offered: Linkage to STI testing/treatment Connection to housing Love, connection & safety for all who enter. We would like to continue to provide these life saving, person centered services directly at our storefront. If we cannot, we will go mobile. We will always serve. In whatever capacity we can. The light stays on. The path to stable housing or shelter often requires waiting lists, eligibility screenings, and complex applications. For someone living on the streets, these hurdles can feel overwhelming and, at times, almost impossible to overcome. Providing food, warm clothing, hygiene kits, and camping gear offers dignity, comfort, and a sense of stability in the short term while they work toward longer-term solutions.
