?? This Week’s Focus: Lost Circulation! ?? Lost circulation is a major challenge in drilling, where drilling fluid is lost downhole into fractures or caverns, disrupting the return flow and primary well barrier, creating costly delays. We’re tackling this head-on by using our core carbonate consolidation glass technology from Vitri-Reinforce, specifically for curing lost circulation. How does it work? We mix traditional lost circulation material (LCM) with our dissolvable glass, creating a reactive slurry that forms quick-setting rock directly in the loss zones. Here’s why Vitri-Patch is a game-changer in the field: ? High-Impact Properties of Vitri-Patch LCM Solution: Rapid Set-Up: Initially acidic when mixed, Vitri-Patch solidifies within minutes on contact with carbonate rock downhole — ideal for sealing highly fractured and cavernous carbonates. Dynamic Flexibility: The solution stays fluid at lower temperatures and in higher dynamic conditions, minimizing the risk of blockage in the drill pipe or BHA. Once the fluid pH raises, temperature increases, or the fluid slows, the Vitri-Patch begins to set. Expansion and Thixotropy: CO? gas is generated during the reaction, creating an expanding, thixotropic slurry to fill large voids and fractures in major loss zones. Even partially successful Vitri-Patch treatments can significantly reduce or stop loss rates within hours, as minerals formed in the loss zone show rapid post-set growth in the presence of water and brine. Easy Removal: With a compressive strength of 100 to 400 psi and high acid solubility, Vitri-Patch is easy to drill out or dissolve with standard acid washes later, minimizing any impact on production. The final day of 2024 SPE TWIPS is kicking off in Banff! Today, Noetic Engineering’s Dan Dall'Acqua will present during Session 9: SAGD Diagnostic Methods and Production Assurance. His presentation, ????????-???????????? ???????????????????? ???? ?????????? ?????????????????????? ?????????????? ???? ???????? ?????????? ?????????????? ????????????????, leverages historical running data and advanced analysis techniques to quantify how running friction is impacted by the addition of rigid centralizers to horizontal liners as they are installed into unconsolidated sand formations. In long-reach extended reach (ERD) wells, mechanisms that promote lower overall openhole friction can provide time and cost savings and reduce the magnitude of structural loads applied to the liner system. In this presentation, Dan will show rigorous comparisons of openhole friction behaviour in offset ERD wells as an objective basis for assessing potential benefits of centralizers. This will also highlight the immense advantage drilling teams can obtain through the use of well-conditioned, physics-based digital assessment tools to analyze tubular running data. Inverted core drilling using a converted prototype drill with dust and slurry capture. Guarda's unique silica dust suppression technology uses water and vacuum to suppress dust more effectively. Water turns the dust into slurry which is then captured and removed via the attached vacuum. Further work is underway to convert this drill from battery to low voltage electric which will provide greater power and longevity to the tool whilst still being safe to use with water.
