My kids' school held a fundraising auction recently. It’s one of my favorite events of the year and all money raised goes towards families in the community who need a little extra support. There were some fabulous items on offer - a week at a villa in Sayulita that sleeps 18 with private chef and full staff, Hawaii vacation, Big Sky, VIP concert tickets. Over 100 items, all donated by friends, families, and local businesses. One of my close friends won the raffle; it was to pick whatever item she wanted from the auction - for the price of a $20 raffle ticket. Given that the school raised close to $500K in a night, winning it was a big deal. What did she pick? The instant wine cellar (each family donated a bottle)? The ATV? A week in Whistler? Nope. She picked the artwork produced by the kids in Pre-K. Each grade designed and produced a collaborative piece of art that was a representation of their personality and desires. Her kiddo is in Pre-K and she loves his class. So many people came up to her afterwards and asked why she didn't choose a big ticket item. Her response? The artwork produced by my son is a snapshot in time that I will never get back. It’s worth more than anything on offer and is absolutely priceless. It's true. Expensive material things don't make a difference in your life, we just think they do. Her decision will stick with me for a long time. #consciousleadership #heartcenteredbusiness

One of the most important moments in a charity auction is right at the very start! ?? As an auctioneer, my top priority is to get everyone’s attention before the bidding begins, especially in long rooms where guests can easily be distracted by conversations or the distance from the stage. ?? Sometimes, you’ve got to get creative to make sure everyone’s focused. I’m not afraid to do whatever it takes to grab attention—even if it means standing on a chair in the middle of the room with a wireless mic! Why? Because once you have the whole room engaged, you set the tone for the auction and keep the energy high throughout. ?? From experience, I know that when everyone is tuned in and having fun from the get-go, the bids start rolling in and the funds for the cause skyrocket! ?? So, whether it’s by moving into the center of the action, or even climbing onto a chair —I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure the crowd is with me! ?? Are your promotions capping your sales? If you're running a promo that gives customers a percentage off when spending a certain amount, are you capping your sales at around that amount? Around the time that the Oorah Auction site went live I noticed a possible pain point on our end. Our highest QuickPick option was only $250. So by creating this promotion were we capping our top donations at $250? stay tuned for my solution ??

Did you know that most groups in PA that uses small games of chance (i.e. those rip offs you see at VFWs, American Legions, and such) are required to give some of the proceeds to nonprofits? For those who clicked "see more," did you also know you can get a list with contact info for every group that has a small games of chance license by filling out a "Right to Know" form with your county? #fundraising #prospecting
