Thank you Max Sano and the The Greenzine for publishing my Letter-to-the-Editor on New York State's General Municipal Law under Article 12-F, Section 239x. This section of General Municipal Law enables local governments to create Conservation Advisory Councils with up to two members that are at least sixteen years old. This is an invaluable asset for youth participation in climate policy creation; especially in communities home to school districts with AP Environmental Science courses, environmental clubs, and youth-serving organizations. The aforementioned provision in youth equity creates an intersection with the youth climate movement and global protests featuring young leaders demanding a seat at the table for climate discussions.

Paul Anthony Presendieu Well done. One question as follow-up. If the legislative framework already includes the option for at least two youth representatives in these Advisory Councils (a good thing), are you suggesting that few, if any, of these Councils are actually availing themselves of this option? Any data on how many such Councils have been constituted across New York State, and of those, how many include at least two youth members?
