Our groundbreaking research with the University of Houston showed that ball mastery, a key skill in football, teaches young children how to focus their attention - a skill that sets them up for success in learning. It's time for football governing bodies to understand how the sport can help develop healthier and more educated kids. In New York City alone, 50% of K-12 kids fail in reading and 70% fail in math. Our research in Houston actually improved test scores for kids in literacy and numeracy. Let's promote a sport that can truly make a difference. This comment, often echoed around school games, highlights the lack of understanding around the power of football within schools. Why is it that we embrace club footy so passionately, while representing our school—the place and community where we spend the most time—is so undervalued? Darwin's Middle School AFL Competition is striving to change the way we approach school football in the community and value it just as much as club football. Football can be used as a valuable tool in the education and development of young people. Improved physical and mental health, positive community engagement, academic incentives and lifelong friendships are just some of the profound benefits of football. We need to fully embrace the school footy culture to truly unlock the extensive benefits it offers. So next time you’re in a conversation about school footy, break away from the stigma and help promote the culture and importance of this wonderful competition.

??? OUR WORD OF THE WEEK isn’t ‘passing’, ‘shooting’ or ‘defending’, because we teach life skills, not football skills! Every week at our sessions we celebrate a Word of the Week and use the chosen word to educate children about our ethos and values. In turn, the kids we coach are becoming brilliant young citizens of their local communities. It was great to be on the Iowa Soccer Association webinar to highlight our partnership with Soccer Parenting - The Sideline Project. Today focused on empowering parents and fostering positive relationships within our soccer community. ?? This collaboration signifies our commitment to creating a supportive and encouraging environment where players can thrive. By providing parents with the tools and resources they need, we aim to: 1 - Enhance the matchday experience: Promote positive sideline behavior and create a more enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. 2 - Foster healthy parent-coach relationships: Encourage open communication and collaboration between parents and coaches. 3 - Improve player development: Create a positive and supportive environment where players can reach their full potential. We believe that by working together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of our young athletes.
