Chiefs/City Managers ~ Florida just passed and the Governor signed SB 184 which creates a 25' buffer around police officers, firefighters, and emergency personnel when they are working. Bystanders who disregard a verbal warning and approach with the intent to interfere, harass, or threaten could be arrested & charged with a misdemeanor. Sounds like a really good regulation, with good intent. Officer safety is paramount in every decision, but this is not a fast-food decision at the Drive-thru window. Before presenting a similar proposal in your city/county, we suggest you meet with your local community members, city attorneys, and County Attorney. Get that input before taking any action(s) or you are going to be litigating your actions in 2025. #ProperActions, #Training, #CitizenImput, #CommunityPolicing, #LegalJustification

?? Community Safety Update ?? In light of recent violence at block parties, Detroit is taking action to keep our neighborhoods safe. Mayor Mike Duggan and Chief James White are rolling out a multi-layered strategy: 1?? Neighborhood Response Team: Starting this weekend, DPD will deploy a dedicated team in each precinct to monitor and address illegal block parties, supported by 80 officers for swift action. 2?? Priority 1 Response: All 911 calls about illegal block parties will be treated as top priority. If you see unpermitted gatherings or illegal activities, call 911 immediately. 3?? Prosecution of Hosts: The city will prosecute homeowners and hosts of illegal block parties. Violations can lead to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine. Hosts will receive a warning before enforcement actions are taken. 4?? Permit Process Engagement: Making sure residents are well informed on the process to host a legal block party and obtain a permit from the City of Detroit. Gather signatures from 75% of your neighbors, and ensure your event ends by 10 PM. Stay informed and help us maintain a safe community! Gold Coast youth services, advocates, #raisetheage campaign meeting with Ryan from QCOSS Children belong in school yards, not in prison cells. It's time for action. Join the campaign to #RaiseTheAge. When young children are forced through the criminal legal process, their health, wellbeing, and future are put at risk. Punitive approaches simply don’t work, and we know this. Sending children to prison is not a solution. We need to start highlighting the positive work services are doing with children and young people, this includes our Queensland Police Service. We need to highlight the positive outcomes. Why doesn't the media research that?

The recent violence in Southport profoundly affects the Police, Fire, and Ambulance Services. Nearly 40 police officers sustained injuries, with many hospitalised, highlighting the physical and psychological toll on not only law enforcement - but all the emergency services. Such incidents stretch resources thin, as officers face constant threats while ensuring public safety. For the Fire Service, arson attacks on vehicles and property demand immediate response, diverting resources from other critical emergencies and increasing risks to firefighters. The Ambulance Service, tasked with treating injured officers, the rioters themselves or even members of the public just caught in the melee are also having to manage & lead through this large-scale incident, and experience immense pressure, potentially delaying care for other emergencies. The cumulative impact of such violence disrupts the operational efficiency of all emergency services, endangering both responders and the public they protect. Violence is not the answer to the many issues being played out on the public stage here.... #EmergencyServices #SupportOurHeroes #CommunitySafety #SouthportViolence
Have YOU ever felt the sting of chaos in your neighbourhood? Last night’s violent unrest in Southport left nearly 40 police officers injured, with 27 hospitalised. This senseless violence (some say ‘hijacked’ violence) followed a tragic knife attack that claimed the lives of three children. How the families of those children must be dealing with that, we have no comprehension of but my genuine and sincere condolences to them all. Can you imagine the bravery required to face a violent mob? Merseyside Police officers experienced this firsthand, with serious injuries and chaos ensuing. This event underscores the urgent need for not only community solidarity but also effective law enforcement. Assistant Chief Constable Alex Goss commended the courage of Merseyside Police officers who faced relentless attacks in Southport - and he was quite right to do so. #StopMisinformation #CommunityBuilding #Peace #Southport #LawEnforcement #Leadership #PoliceCourage #CommunitySafety

County of 21,500. The sheriff was known as "Mickey." Former bailiff (I guess that's a court officer vs. a police officer). I just don't understand "country folk," I guess. https://lnkd.in/eTRHbXE4 "The sheriff's duties fall into four categories: tax collection, election duties, services to courts, and law enforcement.?A sheriff spends the most time on civil duties, as opposed to criminal or law enforcement duties.?The sheriff and three other elected county officials-coroners, jailers, and constables-are peace officers who possess law enforcement powers (KRS 446.010).?These powers include a broad grant of authority to make arrests.?Kentucky sheriff's collect property taxes for the state, county, school districts, and sometimes cities if the sheriff has contracted with them for this service." https://lnkd.in/eSYxWvVJ

Earlier this month, I chaired the latest meeting of DOJ's Violent Crime Reduction Committee. We heard from our US Attorneys, the Criminal Division, and DOJ law enforcement agencies about successful efforts to combat the annual summer surge in violence. And we heard from the Office of Justice Programs, the Office on Violence Against Women, and the COPS Office about their work to support local communities and law enforcement with lifesaving grants and technical assistance. All this work is making a real difference, with the impact measured in lives saved. Check out the graph linked below: across the nation, murder is down ~17% in 2024--and that's on top of hefty reductions in 2023. But we can't let up or rest on our laurels. We need to keep attacking the drivers of violent crime, through approaches like DAG Monaco's plan to address Machinegun Conversion Devices--small pieces of plastic or metal that convert regular firearms into weapons of war and turn street corners into combat zones. Working with law enforcement, community, and industry partners, we can continue to drive violent crime down while fostering trust in the communities we serve.

How many more Law Enforcement Officers must be physically attacked, shot at, shot or killed before action is taken to end this “War On Cops?” How many Officers need to be driven from the profession due to injuries from attacks or from the constant barrage of hatred aimed at them? How many Officers must die and how many folded flags must be handed to their widows, widowers, children, or parents before we get serious about defending our Officers against the lies of activists and certain politicians who fuel distrust and hatred against Officers? When will we take on criminals and crime head on while fighting to fix the Criminal Justice System that has been shattered over the last several years? At no time in the last 60 years has the Law Enforcement Profession needed stronger and more committed leaders then now who are willing to speak the truth the the political powers and the community, build relationships of trust and respect with the law abiding and true members of their communities, properly-recruit-train-develop-retain Officers, develop and implement proactive crime fighting strategies, and push District Attorney’s for prosecutions and convictions and Judges for proper sentencing. Law Enforcement Leaders encouraging de-policing by not engaging in traffic enforcement or quality of life criminal violations in order to make a small segment of society happy or putting on more “Cookies with Rookies” events will not fix this. What is needed are Crime Fighters. #police #policeofficer #policeofficers #officer #officers #policedepartment #policechief #lawenforcement #lawenforcementofficers #copscountpolicematter #policingmatters #sheriff #deputy #accountablity #consequences #criminallaw #crimes #qualityoflife #publicsafety #officersafety #communitysafety International Association of Chiefs of Police Police Executive Research Forum Major Cities Chiefs Association National Policing Institute National Police Chiefs' Council FBI National Academy Associates, Inc.
