Absolutely NO brown M&M’s!!! Famously, Van Halen’s concert contracts demanded a large bowl of M&M’s backstage BUT absolutely no brown ones: Article number 126 read: “There will be no brown M&M’s in the backstage area, upon pain of forfeiture of the show, with full compensation.” Diva behaviour? Not really. The Van Halen logic was, if a promoter ignored this detail, what other details would they ignore? Given the size and scale of the shows, it could be something catastrophic which potentially jeopardised the safety of the band or the audience. Similarly, airline passengers often assume that if the airline has not adequately cleaned the tray tables, the maintenance of the engines is also questionable.
