What is the value of climate change photography? Can images help highlight the solutions underway while also inspiring broader activism? ?? Climate change photography plays a key role in storytelling. Photographing the impacts of climate change is crucial: by capturing shifting landscapes, or by portraying the extent of devastation endured by communities, photography emerges as a vital instrument in depicting the perilous effects of global warming. Storytelling through images builds public engagement, boosts compassion, and raises concern for people and animals at the frontlines of climate disruption. Powerful images have though also the potential to spur action and rouse positive change. I rarely post about my photography work on LinkedIn (I'm aiming to change that next year!), but recently, the importance of our night skies has become increasingly apparent to me. As a climate activist and writer, much of my work focuses on global temperatures, extreme weather events, and pollution—crucial aspects of climate change, to be sure! But as an astrophotographer, I’ve seen another aspect of the Earth’s changing environment: light pollution. Our dark skies are fading, becoming brighter and brighter as cities lean into development and urban sprawl becomes more apparent. Humanity continues to impede on wild spaces, bringing with us blinding LEDs and 24/7 floodlights, leaving us with fewer areas to view our most unifying vista: the night sky. Wildlife, particularly Earth’s pollinators, suffer the most from this constant illumination; migrating birds, moths, and bats struggle to complete their essential role in our ecosystem when porch lights and street lamps blaze all night. This weekend, I took my camera out, sat under the stars, aiming for a few deep sky spots, and noted the ever-growing lights on the horizon. I know we have a lot to think about in the climate space, but this week, as #COP29 kicks off, let’s also try to aim for darker nights and clearer skies. #photography #photoeditor #astronomy #lightpollution #darksky #climateation #climatechange

Bra-freaking-vo!!! Thinking differently about solving problems is essential for our survival. Innovation is not just a buzz word it’s a state of mind. When you apply 20th century strategies to 21st century problems you get nowhere. If you want to achieve change in today’s world, you must look through a human-centered lens. In a workplace, for example, to get employee buy-in or improve productivity; leaders need to consider solutions with the employees in mind and with employee input. Carrots and sticks don’t work. I thought we all learned that 20 years ago! Stop mandating. Instead, learn what employees needs are by asking them. Leaders must intrinsically motivate to get results. You can use a myriad of tools to assess your company culture, or you can all take The Balance Quiz to unmask your blind spots. Either way, if you want to make sustainable change, such as this solution to over fishing— you must have an innovation mindset. #humancentereddesign #betterworkexperinece #namaste #balance #innovation Ps. the other reason I’m sharing this amazing accomplishment below—- diverse team members working cross collaborativey is ESSENTIAL. The diversity of minds on this team was broad. The collective network and community established by this initiative is a case example to us all trying to improve the work experience of today’s generation.
