?? Why I Never Kick Students Out of My Classroom ????? In my years as an educator, I've come to firmly believe in the extraordinary potential of relationship building with students. That's why you'll never find me resorting to kicking students out of my classroom. Instead, I'm committed to harnessing the power of dialogue. Here's why: Fostering Respect: Every student deserves respect, even when their behavior may challenge classroom norms. Engaging in conversation rather than exclusion communicates that respect and offers a chance for understanding. Teaching Conflict Resolution: Conflict is a part of life, and learning how to navigate it constructively is a valuable life skill. Conversations provide a safe space to address conflicts, helping students develop essential conflict resolution skills. Promoting Responsibility: Confronting the consequences of one's actions is a vital aspect of personal growth. Instead of removing students, conversations hold them accountable for their behavior and encourage responsibility. Preparation: - Prepare a set of discussion questions or prompts relevant to the lesson objectives. - Arrange students in two concentric circles, with the inner circle facing outward and the outer circle facing inward so each student has a partner. 2. Instructions: - Explain that students will discuss a series of questions with different partners. - Emphasize the importance of active listening and thoughtful responses. 3. Supportive Environment: When students are in a supportive environment, motivating them is much easier. Engaging and persevering students can be encouraged by being positive and approachable. Dismissive or critical tones, on the other hand, discourage motivation and learning (Ambrose et al., 2010).
