Here's some fun for you and your team. Tomorrow is the RSPCA ACT's annual Poorly Drawn Pets event, when people's pets get drawn…poorly. It’s a fundraising day for the RSPCA ACT, it’s loads of fun, easy to take part and a great way for you and your team to come together...to talk about and share ridiculous depictions of your fury besties. You'll need to head to our Facebook page https://buff.ly/3W3TSZN Then simply: 1. Take a photo of your pets (using your phone is fine). 2. Follow the links on the FB page to make a donation. 3. Post your pics on our Facebook 'launch' page tomorrow (not before) from 8am. 4. Our broad range of enthusiastic artists will repost the poorly drawn image of your pets in ‘replies’ in the same Facebook post (please allow up to five business days - although it's usually you'll get your pics back the same day) So, take a couple of pics today or go through your photos now and decide on the image you want to use. Hanging up printed versions around your workplace is sure to be a conversation starter! See you on FB after 8am!

Last week I spent a full day with the leadership team of Presbyterian Senior Living in Dillsburg PA. as one of our activities, I’d asked each of PSL’s 30 communities to bring a decorated pickle jar to help us launch The Pickle Challenge for Charity. I said that I would use my own arbitrary and capricious criteria to select winning entries for categories that I would create. I was blown away by their creativity! These are just a few of the contest entries. They weren’t just decorated pickle jars – they were artistic creations! Not only that, many of the participants also had Pickle Free Zone t-shirts, hats, and other paraphernalia. The pickle jar decorating contest is typically the first activity in launching The Pickle Challenge for Charity. Making people more aware of their own negative attitudes, including chronic complaining, is an important step toward creating a more positive Culture of Ownership. The Pickle Challenge is fun, it’s free, and it gives people a soft-touch, lighthearted way to hold themselves and each other to higher standards of behavior at work. You can download the free DIY Implementation Guide at www.PicklePledge.com. And feel free to email or message me if you need help. Time for a Friday lookback! Two takeaways from my week are: giving feels good & go where the good vibes people are... 1. Giving feels good: I helped Sara Nye find somewhere to donate old stuffed animals which led me to Glad Dogs Nation (& Marianne Ahern). They make old stuffies into safe pet toys. After announcing it to the famed "mom chat," we donated future pet toys from multiple households. It felt so good to do something small when it's so easy to feel powerless in the bigness and suffering going on around the world. Check them out - https://lnkd.in/efUX-mck 2. Go where the good vibes people are: Coffee with the job searching moms and group coaching with Carrie Spaulding, PCC gave me energy x100M. Both groups were celebrating wins and it made my heart grow to see people supporting one another. What were some highlights or takeaways from your week??

Over the past two weeks, Asheville has been flooded with love. From local, state, and federal agencies (yes, they are ALL here, but that’s a different post). Joe, Hank, Alice and I have been doing shifts at a grassroots collection and distribution site. The generosity is staggering. Thank you, thank you, thank you! But the needs are now evolving. Our site alone could no longer accept water, clothing, OTC meds, and much more. They have SO much. And that’s only one site. Other mountain areas (Boone, Marshall, Spruce Pine, and countless others) may need supplies, but Asheville now has what it needs to meet folks basic needs. However, restaurants can’t open bc there’s no water, and many want to pay their staff regardless. Farmers can’t sell to restaurants, so they’re donating their produce for distribution by food banks. And artists lost much — if not all — of their inventory in the flooding. - Consider donating to artists using the image below. - Support farmers here: https://lnkd.in/ewSNg39R - And if you have a truck of supplies, please direct it to a smaller town that doesn’t have as many resources as Asheville.
Local, independent businesses are the heart of the Asheville area—home to growers who are artists and artists whose work grows. Thought leaders and thought provokers, musicians and storytellers, entrepreneurs and educators, foodies and beer lovers, hippies, healers, adventurers, creators and innovators. We craft and brew and paint and carve, handcrafted by real hands. Now, those hands need a helping hand. And a hug. This weekend, Explore Asheville, in partnership with Asheville Downtown Association, Go Local Asheville, ArtsAVL, Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, ASHEVILLE INDEPENDENT RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION INC, WNC: MADE X MTNS, Mountain BizWorks, and JD Ellison and Company, launched the Love Asheville From Afar page. This page gathers shop links and direct donation platforms for Buncombe County businesses impacted by Hurricane Helene. Businesses located in or selling from Buncombe County can participate by completing this submission form: https://lnkd.in/gFFiH_V2 Your support can make a real difference—shop local or donate to help rebuild: https://lnkd.in/gA9Mmq39

I just want to give a little shout-out to Buddies In Bad Times Theatre for this blog post (and corresponding Instagram post). If there is one thing most annual fund programs try to avoid, it's talking about operating costs. Few of us ever write, "Your $25 can help us plug in our computers!" Most of us agree that these narratives aren't compelling enough. But I've always wondered what would happen if we did use these narratives—if we gave more donors the benefit of the doubt and trusted that they'd understand the impact of helping to just keep the doors open (literally—with automatic doors, the doors don't open unless the electric is paid). But in this post, Buddies did some things I find really cool. -They explained pricing changes that devotees will notice -They broke down some of their operating cost areas, and how their audience helps them cover those costs (and where that revenue falls short) -They made their needs clear -They were accountable about accessibility for audience members who can't give at the levels they need -They did all of this with no platitudes And they trust their community to not only be there for them, but to understand that operating costs (in this case, production costs and building fees) are reason enough to pay more for a ticket. Buddies respects their audience enough to be frank and open with them, and I respect that. Check out how they communicated these changes in their blog post: https://lnkd.in/dWB42wUa And on Instagram: https://lnkd.in/dJ2z6TwA #fundraising #annualfund #philanthropy

#EngagedLibraries spread happiness. ???? Lasting memories are made for teens at events like prom. But for some, not having anything to wear stops them from attending. Sacramento Public Library in California breaks those barriers by inviting donations of gently used suits, dresses, and formal accessories to its annual Prom Drive. During giveaway events each spring, teens browse the free collection and take home the perfect outfit. Instead of collecting dust in someone’s closet, donations have the potential to bring light to others. ?? We want to know how your library connects for a cause. Share your story on social media and include #EngagedLibraries in your post. You could be featured in an upcoming issue of Abstracts, on our community engagement hub, in an upcoming blog or video, or across our social media channels. ?? Excellent Customer Service (and Quality Donor Stewardship for that matter) is not about spending lots of money or wasting hours of time - it is about thoughtful, personalized attention. Here is a great example … This past week #Abilene - The Storybook Capital of America - hosted our 12th annual Children’s Arts + Literacy Festival celebrating the works of author and illustrator LeUyen Pham. Not only did Ms. Pham bring her entire family to Texas (their first time in the Lone Star State) for the entirety of the festival, but they threw themselves into all the weekend’s events, visited our local Air Force base and ate some of our best BBQ. But LeUyen’s graciousness didn’t stop there. At book signings - she took the time to talk to each kid, to sign their book, and when possible, to even draw a quick portrait of the child. My daughters got a copy of her book “Big Sister, Little Sister” and she drew their likenesses right next to book’s illustrations that represented the author and her own big sister. [see below] Yes, it took time. Yes, it took effort. But it didn’t take too much time or too much effort. And it cost nothing. What made these drawings special was the ?? behind the act. The personal touch. She looked at my girls and they were the only ones who received this gift. It was for them and them alone. When we care for and connect with others, it doesn’t have to always be big, gigantic over-the-top tasks. It doesn’t need to be impersonal, mass actions to a large group. For customer service and stewardship to really hit, it needs to be personalized and authentic. We need to look the people in the eyes and give them a gift that only we can give and that was made just for them. That can be a gift of service, of a kind word, of a handwritten note or even of a picture. It just needs to be for them and them alone. #stewardship #customerservice #personaltouch #authentic #fundraising

It's Friday, and I think we could all use a little corn and cheese. As in me and Deevon La Rue being corny and cheesy, and narrating this video of our coral restoration volunteering together. Yes, we are still working on raising funds to complete our gear and get additional research and conservation training certifications. Thank you *so much* to those who have helped us get this far. While also seeking and submitting proposals for paying client work. While also doing excellent client work. While also promoting client work (see posts on Mother: Sisterhood in the Wild film from earlier this week). And as Wes would like you all to know, "he be scrubbing too." And FYI, this isn't bad grammar, it's AAVE. This Friday, I wish you all the freedom to be natural, silly, cheesy, corny, joyful, authentic, and at ease with who and where you are in life. Even if it doesn't fit within the parameters of those who will never love you anyway. I invite you to do what you love, even if others don't understand it. I challenge you to seek and embrace the core of who you are, even if it isn't consistent with the "brand" you're told you need to have. If you like this, please subscribe to our channel, share, and consider donating!
