I can't get this story out of my head... I was at this webinar. It was called "Tapping Into #WorkerVoice to improve #JobQuality: Lessons from the Talent Pipeline Management Network" Laurie Mays of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Foundation shared about a #TPM engagement with local and global equine breeding and training organizations (because Kentucky is a hub for horses). I've been in the thick of employer advisory groups, but what I thought was really neat is that for this engagement, the chamber put together an #employee advisory group, to address retention challenges within specific occupations. One group of employees were veteranarian residents. These employees - mostly women - would relocate to Kentucky to complete a residency at the horse hospital. The facility was having a really, really hard time retaining them. Not only would these employees drop out of the program, but out of their entire occupation. They would leave their veteranarian careers, full-stop. Why? They were lonely. Young professionals who love animals move to a place where they know no one, and come home to an empty house. Most didn't have pets, because they'd be gone for such long working hours, and couldn't provide proper care. And so -- loneliness was the challenge. What did employers do to address this challenge? They build pet care facilities. Now, employees have pets, and bring them to work, and see them on their breaks, and take them home. And the problem of loneliness was solved. And veteranary residents stopped leaving the program. And the staffing and retention problem for employers was mitigated. And people who love animals kept their careers - and their pets. Never in their best, most empathetic strategic problem solving sessions would employers have ever come up with this solution to an employee retention problem. That's the power of #employeevoice And the power of employers asking the question, "what if?" Thanks Laurie Mays for sharing this powerful story, and to the The Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program for hosting this webinar!

HR Policies Reflect Furry Family Members in the Workplace Pet ownership is on the rise, and making accommodations for pet owners is gaining attention in the workplace as time off for pet care tops employee wish lists. As millennials make up the largest demographic of the workforce and are one-third more likely to have a pet rather than a child, the trend will only grow in the coming years.?HR professionals and companies looking to stay ahead of employee needs should revise their time-off policies to support this burgeoning need. Suggestions are pet-friendly offices, pet insurance, remote work, time off for vet visits, and even paid leave to care for a new pet. Read more here from SHRM: https://lnkd.in/gZkxRUhJ

Bad news if your cleaning is managed in-house... What happens when your cleaners are off sick? or on holiday? or leave altogether? For most of the companies I've spoken to who manage it in house there isn't really an answer Some cover it themselves, but most, don't have anyone to pick it up Working with AMS makes all of that our problem. So when it comes time for the cleaner to take some annual leave.. We just insert our back up team so nothing changes Regardless of whether your cleaning is outsources or in house, it's something worth thinking about

Never take PTO on a Demo Day! How would you feel if an AE took a (non-emergency) PTO day- with a Fortune 500 meeting on the books? This makes me think about the grind in the kitchen. Managing a kitchen has helped me form a certain amount of grit, discipline, and dedication needed for the sales industry. - Scheduling conflicts leave you working doubles (open to close) - Dish person calls in and you gotta finish the night in the dish pit - Gotta stay 3 hours extra to finish inventory - There is no leaving until the kitchen is clean - Someone calls in on your day off, you gotta get it covered or cover it yourself In sales, we gotta show up just the same. Meetings are all we have in this world and we lose deals and opportunities if we don't show up. Here are my 4 reasons to skip a sales meeting: - Sick (bedridden) - Family Emergency - Internet is down - WWIII Aside from these 4, I am making that meeting, regardless. ~SaaSy Chef *Any crazy PTO stories?
