Making money matters, but so does ?????? we do it. This week, we’re celebrating our 8th anniversary in our business community! But it’s more than just a celebration. I get it, starting a business can be scary. But also because the environment can be intimidating, very competitive. And because we want a different way of doing things. Make something meaningful in our lives. That’s why our community is different. We honor our team members every year with 16 awards worth $1,000 each. What I like is that it's not about being big and important or super smart... It's more about how human we are. Here are some examples: - Integrity. - Community cheerleader. - Compassionate Leadership. - Dance Like Nobody’s Watching. - Embracing the Inward Journey. All voted on by us. Together, we’re building something strong and meaningful. Do you think a supportive community can make a difference in business?

Hispanic Heritage Month: Path to Collective Power & A Three Part SeriesThis year, our Hispanic Heritage Month program will feature a three-part series led by Nota Inclusion speakers. Futurists are invited to participate in virtual development sessions covering themes like overcoming adversity, unlocking personal potential, and harnessing the power of connection.Mando Origel, Recorded Futures Latin Network ERG lead and Customer Success Manager, shared his inspiration for organizing these events.Boston Futurists celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with catered Mexican and Guatemalan inspired taco truck! How did these events come to be?"I have been wanting to bring something to the ERG where both our members and allies can take away actionable items to help their personal and professional growth and development."Why do these events matter?"I realize how important it is for all of us to connect with professionals who share a similar background. It gives us a story to model after and to get inspired by. As individuals, I think it helps us see what we are capable of becoming when we leverage the power of the collective. That could be family, community, co-workers, partners, mentors etc."Why do you think this is relevant for all Futurists?"We are all in different phases in our lives and professions, and I think we can benefit from learning about other people who are at a point in their lives where they are able to share their experiences for the world to learn from."What do you want to come out of this?"I really hope we are able to take advantage of this amazing opportunity to share and discover the potential within ourselves."Any closing thoughts?"This series is called Collective Power - I want to put some focus on that. I have learned the importance of community when challenges arise, and building that community takes work. You have to be vulnerable and ask for help. I hope this experience resonates with others at the company to share their goals, aspirations, but also challenges. As a company, building community is key to forward momentum and success."Look for series 2 in Q4 and series 3 in early 2025. New Year, New Introduction! To those who know me and the work I do, welcome back! To those who don’t, allow me to introduce myself. I’m Matthew, and I wear a few different hats. Here’s a quick snapshot of who I am and what I do: ?? Founder & Executive Director of Black Lives Matter New Brunswick ?? Principal & EDIA Specialist at EDIA Insight Solutions ??ASD-S District Education Council Representative ?? Trainer in school systems, working with students, staff, and leadership teams on topics like racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion ?? Vice-Chair of CSA Technical Committee Z301 ?? Other Things, but trying to keep it short For the past five years, I’ve been fully dedicated to supporting, uplifting, and empowering Black communities and Equity Priority Groups. Along the way, I’ve met incredible individuals who’ve mentored me, challenged me, and helped me grow. Like anyone, I’ve made my share of mistakes—but I’ve used each one as an opportunity to learn, evolve, and improve, all while having an amazing team and support network by my side. In these five years, I’ve also heard a lot of feedback: “You need to take more time off.” “You can’t maintain this pace, you’ll burn out.” “For an Executive Director, you’re too accessible.” But honestly, these comments point to a quality I’m most proud of: passion. Some may see it as working too much or being too available, but to me, it’s all about being deeply committed to the impact I’m trying to make. They say that when you’re doing what you love, it doesn’t feel like work—and I couldn’t agree more. I am passionate about what I do, and I’d love to share that passion with you. If you’re someone looking to champion EDIA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) in your personal and/or professional life, I’d be happy to offer guidance and encouragement! Or, if you’re a business/organization looking to enhance EDIA in your organization, reach out—I’d love to discuss how my team and I can support your efforts. Let’s connect and make 2025 a year of positive change! #Equity #Inclusion #Leadership #CommunityImpact #Passion #EDIA #Diversity

If given the chance, would you advocate and nominate someone for an award? Positive feedback and affirmation not only inspire individuals to excel but also validate and highlight the amazing work being done around us. Authentic recognition is good for individuals, teams, companies, and communities. The Spark Awards is a celebration of the remarkable contributions of young people (aged 40 & under) in our region who have the "spark" to make our community better. Don't miss the chance to nominate deserving individuals for this year's awards! The deadline for submissions is May 15th, 2024. Nominate those in any category you believe should receive recognition. 1) Education 2) Community Advocacy 3) Civil Service 4) Creativity 5) Entrepreneurship 6) Athleticism 7) Justice For consideration in any category, include the nominee's name, contact information (phone and/or email), and a 250-word description of their work in that category, explaining why they should be this year's recipient. Shoutout to Aksel W. for posting this info. I'm excited to celebrate the folks who are doing such amazing work. https://lnkd.in/edpcVseQ
