??Socket communication in Universal Robots?? ???? ??cobotwednesday #15 In previous posts, we discussed several servers available on the Universal Robots. ? ??But robots can also be clients, of course, to communicate with outside equipment through TCP/IP protocol for example using socket communication. Socket communication is a method of exchanging data between two devices on a network ??. It involves creating sockets, which serve as endpoints for this communication??. One device, the server ??, listens on a specific port, while the other, the client ??, establishes a connection to this port ??. Once the connection is established, both can transfer data between each other ?? In this type of configuration, the UR robot acts as client ?? and the external equipment is the server ??. We can seamlessly send and receive data thanks to socket communication ?? and robot script language - URScript - provides commands which open and close sockets ????, and send and receive different data formats ???? All the available functions can be found in the Universal Robots script manual. The main ones: ??Opening a connection ??Closing a connection ??Sending from the robot data of type: byte, int, line, string ??Reading by the robot data types: string, line, byte list, binary integer, ascii float ? In the case of the servers discussed in previous posts, there were fixedly defined commands and rules?? for what you can send and what data you can receive. You can think of socket communication as communication in which we can define what data and how it will exchange with external devices?? configuring the rules at the client and server in this case. An example of a socket connection in the video ????. Keep in mind that UR recommends that socket communication should be used only in short data exchanges ??, and should avoid a continuous open connection for a very long time ??? ? ??Servers to send robot data and receive URScript commands ?? ???? ??cobotwednesday #13 Other interfaces that we have available in Universal Robots via TCP/IP are primary and secondary interfaces running on ports 30001 and 30002. These interfaces are internally mainly used for communication between GUI and controller and operate at 10Hz. ?? Because of UR's open architecture, we as users can of course connect to these ports and receive/send data. Primary client interface: ? Port: 30001 ? Constantly transmits a data stream about the robot state (robot mode data, Joint data, Cartesian Info, Configuration data etc) + additional messages (safety status, popup messages, information about global variables and more) ? Can receive URScript commands and URScript programs Secondary client interface: ? Port: 30002 ? Constantly transmits a data stream about the robot state (robot mode data, Joint data, Cartesian Info, Configuration data etc) ? Can receive URScript commands and URScript programs ? ?? Port information is always transmitted in a header + content format. ?? Please note that due to the introduction of remote and local modes in eSeries, full functionality can be achieved when the robot is in remote mode - then you can not only receive data, but also send the appropriate commands through the interface. If, on the other hand, we will be in local mode - we can use ports 30011 (Primary client read only) and 30012 (Secondary client read only) to be able to receive data only. ? ??
