This Wednesday marked a monumental moment in my journey: I've officially been accepted into the Master of Science in Information Systems program at Georgia State University, specializing in Cybersecurity, and to top it off, I've been granted a Graduate Assistantship Award to fuel my academic pursuits!! Adding to the thrill, Georgia State’s Graduate Information Systems Program has recently been ranked among the top 10 in the nation by the U.S. News & World Report. Talk about impeccable timing – this news dropped just days before my acceptance (cue the nerves and excitement). Reflecting on my journey so far fills me with awe. It's hard to believe it's been nearly a decade since I first dipped my toes into the world of cybersecurity, turning what started as a hobby into a full-blown passion. This hobby began as a fun & productive way to "keep myself busy" while living alone and pursuing my bachelor's degree in business. Fast forward six years, and that passion has only intensified, propelling me toward a professional commitment to cybersecurity. Two years ago, the idea of pursuing a master's degree began to take shape, and over the last seven or so months, I've dedicated myself to laying the groundwork for this exciting new chapter. From obtaining cybersecurity certifications to acing tests and gathering paperwork, it's been a whirlwind of preparation. Yet, amidst the countless hours spent in labs, devouring educational resources, and fine-tuning my programming and pentesting skills, I know that the toughest challenges still lie ahead. But hey, I'm more than ready to (h?a?c?k?) take them head-on! #Cybersecurity #GradSchool #GeorgiaStateUniversity

*Drawing Attention To a Serious Matter* My name is Davidjose Malave, and I am a double major in National Security and Cyber Security Studies at New Jersey City University. I've been a student since Fall of September 2022. During my time at the university I have been an active student involved in many on campus clubs, departments, and organizations. I have continuously maintained a GPA of over 3.5 every semester while balancing my outside professions and studies. As I enter my junior year, I was recently informed that I can no longer pursue a double major in National Security and Cyber Security Studies. This decision was unexpected and has led me to seek clarification and appeal through various channels, including meetings with advisors and faculty. The consistent feedback I have received suggests that the original promise of a double major should be honored, as the policy appears to have been retroactively adjusted. Having invested significant effort into fulfilling the requirements for both majors, and with 76 cumulative credits and a GPA of 3.705 to date, I am concerned about the lack of response to my inquiries and the absence of a clear resolution. Additionally, there has been no discussion regarding reimbursement for the thousands spent tuition and expenses related to the two majors of the near three years spent on my studies. I've put my best foot forward in the studies of both majors only to get told out of nowhere that my efforts will not get me the degrees I was promised. The same degrees that the school wrote on paper on my transcript in 2022. The same degrees that I enrolled and declared prior to freshman year at the university. (See photo proof/documentation below. Student ID has been blurred out for privacy reasons). They have now left me with the ultimatum having to pick one of either major with no sort of compromise whatsoever! *Please spread awareness about this matter (repost) as it may not only affect me but other students as well within New Jersey City University! - Thank you*

It was just 2 weeks into my new job that I went from idolising my dream job and working in a space with the ability to use my insights and experience to help create impactful and meaningful change, and I was in a position where I got to give back and be someone who hopefully made a difference in someone's life. Being able to bring the human focus and energy, and be a positive motivator to show someone just how rewarding working on the right side could be (and its perks - shoutout to having a diverse and always changing day!) was so motivating to me - really struck a chord. This is why i want to get up each day. I got to have some amazing conversations with not just the students (who totally owned me and Woodie at any and most gaming, coding and scripting activities), but were all ears and 100% open about asking questions for more pathways and career opportunities. It was incredible bringing Woodie there and breaking the barrier about stigmas associated with neurodiversity, skill sets and being in the 'security' or 'cyber crime prevention' space and working with the good guys - especially the team at the Australian Federal Police. Claudia Forsyth Adrena Tanure Ribeiro, Jess, Tim Stainton, Henry Shirer and my partner in crime on the day in repping how great it is to be in this field - Mitch Pearson-Goff - all of whom inspire me each day and motivate me to keep breaking down the barriers and solve the puzzles that come up. An even bigger thank you to the Australian Federal Police who I can proudly say I work for - which gives me the opportunity to do contribute in these ways. It was a privilege to be a role model in this program. The value in this program, which is dedicated to empowering the upcoming generation to leverage their incredible talents for good, is crucial in narrowing the cyber skills gap in Australia and nurturing the future army and fleet of cyber champions and defenders. Taking part in the PILOT re_B00TCAMP was a humbling, career highlight, and I could quite frankly almost wet myself (Claudia and those in the know this inside joke will forever remain hush hush ?? ) in anticipation for the next one. Given the complexity of cybercrime, it's essential we help guide Australia’s next generation of cyber champions so they can work with us to protect our community. Can’t wait for what’s to come for re_BOOTCMP Australia!
re_B00TCMP inspires next generation of cyber champions. ? Students with the skills to hack ethically have completed an Australian first, AFP-led program, re_B00TCMP, that encouraged them to use their skills for good. The program showed students the opportunities that exist when they use their abilities within the boundaries of the law, exposing them to positive career pathways for their IT skills, while also teaching them digital and social responsibility. ? Eighteen students, aged between 14 to 17 years, participated in the one-day program that featured interactive cyber challenges, industry expert sessions, and discussions on career pathways. ? Parents, carers, and teachers also attended a parallel program that encouraged them to understand what their children do online and were provided with guidance on how to have open conversations and actively foster their talent.

Talent Gap? What about Education Gap? Or rather, a gap of Academia understanding what the corporate need for cybersecurity is. Picture This: You enroll in a college for a Cybersecurity Degree You select Cybersecurity and National Security as double majors. You buy the books, pay the tuition, attend the classes You even work as a Resident Advisor to oncampus housing and support clubs/professors All to hear that your last two years - You can't double major anymore in #Cybersecurity and National Security Pick One. WHAT? This really happened (is happening) to our recent summer intern - Davidjose Malave at New Jersey City University So now his "specialty" that he was showing interest in by doubling majors, spending time, money and energy - won't be shown. He is told he has to "pick one" Shouldn't a University honor the currently enrolled students and not sunset a degree program (or dual major policy) until after its last enrolled students are through? At least finish out the this enrolled group of students, New Jersey City University! #CybersecurityAcademia #CybersecurityDegree #CyberStudies

: She believed she could, so she did. Congratulations to our Founder and Executive Director, Jasmine M. Jackson, who completed her year-long #NCEPFP (Education Policy Fellowship Program) and delved into education policy at the state (North Carolina) and federal levels! We at T-ATP can't wait to use the information our founder learned through her fellowship to better service our future accelerators with #digitalliteracy and #cybersecurityeducation by exposing and having them thrive in the technological age.
