I'm Devante and I volunteer at the Norman Dubie, and what inspired me to volunteer is I believe in contribution is very important and that's something that's very near to me because I was once a teenager in that position. So now that I'm older and life and I've seen what it's like to go down a certain path, I like to just go back and try to help those kids transition and let them know, most importantly that they can take that situation they're in and turn it into a positive a lot of times. Come back here society and the volunteers, we just bring so much to these kids that we don't even realize it, but you can literally change somebody's life and make a memorable experience for them without even knowing it. Or just something that a lot of times we can take for granted or we we can think it's supposed to happen. It doesn't always happen for a lot of these kids we help and volunteer with. The advice that I would give someone considering volunteering at a detention center, it's just do it. It's not what you think it is. A lot of these kids are friendly, they're nice, they're relationships you build with them. You won't ever regret it. There's nothing I would rather do on Thursday nights because you just know what light you can bring it to somebody, a teenager. A lot of times they're just looking for somebody to connect with, somebody to love them, somebody to support them and you just showing up for them. That will be something that will change your life, I guarantee you.
