Paramount is a true partner in every sense of the word. They don’t just offer resources—they offer their hearts, their leadership, and their belief in the potential of our learners. During this recent mentorship event, our community had the rare privilege of direct access to Global Chief of Finance for Paramount Naveen Chopra, other senior leaders, and so many talented professionals across technology and finance. This wasn’t just support—it was a conversation, a space where hope and ambition were nurtured and allowed to bloom. For so many of our learners—first-generation students, immigrants, individuals who may have grown up watching Paramount shows and whispering to themselves, *“Maybe I could be part of this someday”—*these moments mean everything. They take quiet, uncertain hopes and turn them into sparks of determination, moments of belief, and the beginnings of real, transformative growth. As Naveen shared, “Every time our Finance and Technology teams work with The City Tutors, it is a privilege for all of us. There are so many avenues you can take in media, so our goal is always to help students leave mentoring sessions with new ideas about professional paths they may not have known existed and give insight into how to jump-start their own careers. I am continually impressed by the informed questions and viewpoints students bring to the table.” For our learners, this isn’t just about networking—it’s about realizing that their dreams are valid, that their voices are heard, and that they belong. We’re so excited for what’s ahead with Paramount and the promises they continue to fulfill for this city and its people. Together, we’re redefining what mentorship and inclusion can achieve. Thank you Adam Robinson, Rita Papadogiannis, and Harold Anderson for your partnership and guidance. #Paramount #TheCityTutors #MentorshipMatters #NYCTalent #InclusiveWorkforce #FirstGenerationDreams https://lnkd.in/eS-r_Dt3

I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as the Director of Learning Technology at Big Brothers Big Sisters of America! Over 20 years ago, while working towards a Masters in Education, I had a class assignment that tasked me with creating a program to help motivate elementary school children to be more interested in learning. The internet was already changing so much of how we worked and learned that the idea came to me almost instantly - Mentors Improving Kids' Education (or MIKE for short). It was a simple idea: connect kids with adults in their dream jobs, maybe even one of their personal heroes, through online chat rooms. Back then, in a dial-up, pre-social media world void of apps, this felt groundbreaking. And to me, it was. It showed me firsthand the transformative power of mentorship and learning. It showed me that technology was something that could be utilized to connect people and help them in their lives. And how just taking the time to listen to someone talk about their dreams, and sharing your experience, might actually help make those dreams come true. While that was just a class project (I got an A by the way), the belief in the potential of our youth and the power of mentorship has never left me. Despite not finishing that particular degree, I feel I have never stopped doing the work. Fast forward to today, and I'm thrilled to be joining Big Brothers Big Sisters of America as their new Director of Learning Technology. This role feels like destiny, aligning my lifelong love of learning, creativity, knack for technology, and my passion for helping others. BBBSA's mission to ignite the power and promise of youth through mentorship is something that deeply resonates with me. I am excited to join the amazing people in the BBBSA network and contribute to the great work they are doing to make a positive impact on the lives of young people. #BBBSA #MentorshipMatters #LearningAndDevelopment?#FullCircle

Sometimes it is the small steps that have the potential to change the trajectory of our careers, and I can hardly believe that it's been 8 years since I was selected from thousands of young creatives and professionals to participate in the prestigious 5FM's Mentorship Program. That opportunity gave me invaluable insight into the world of programming and broadcasting, forever altering the course of my professional journey. Beyond the personal impact, experiences like these underscore the larger societal and economic importance of investing in young talent early on within their professional journey. In today’s rapidly evolving global economy, the need to nurture and invest in the next generation of professionals cannot be overstated. Research by McKinsey shows that mentorship and early career investment in youth increases professional success by 65%, while significantly reducing the long-term skills gap that plagues many industries. And this is only just the beginning tip of the iceberg. When organizations, governments, and industries commit to nurturing early-stage talent, they create a domino effect that can uplift entire communities, drive innovation, and stimulate economic growth. Initiatives like the 5FM Mentorship Program provide more than just access to career-building opportunities; they serve as incubators for creativity, innovation, and leadership. By immersing young professionals in real-world experiences, we enable them to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings, helping them to develop the critical skills necessary to thrive in competitive industries. Furthermore, these programs are catalysts towards blueprints for success, showing that a small step in a young person’s career can lead to a lifetime of impact, innovation, and community leadership. Investing in youth today is, in essence, investing in the success of tomorrow's industries and societies. As a creative entrepreneur who has always been passionate about learning, empowerment and world and community building, I can only hope that the South African government and the private sector at large invests in such initiatives across the board to facilitate the ripple effect of change.

But what if I told you that fire could not only be rekindled but burn brighter than ever? Let me introduce you to a few fellow Ruckus Makers who've found their spark again in The Ruckus Maker Club: Meet Sarah from Hillcrest Elementary.? Last year, she was drowning in paperwork and putting out fires. Now? Because Sarah's not just managing anymore - she's innovating. Her newfound capacity allows her to focus on what really moves the needle for student achievement. Then there's Mike from West Coast High.? He was on the verge of quitting education altogether. A year later, he's presenting his innovative programs at national conferences and just landed his dream job as principal at the high school he graduated from. The significance? Mike's not just saving his own career - he's inspiring a whole new generation of students and educators with his renewed passion. And let's not forget about Lisa from Central Middle School.? She was struggling with staff conflicts and low morale. After working with the Ruckus Maker team, she implemented strategies that transformed her school culture. Now, her teacher retention is at an all-time high, and she was named Educator of the Year by her local Chamber of Commerce. Why is this a big deal?? Because a positive school culture doesn't just make work more pleasant - it directly impacts student achievement and community engagement. These aren't isolated success stories. They're the norm when Ruckus Makers come together. In The Ruckus Maker Club, you'll find: ? A safe space to vent, brainstorm, and problem-solve without judgment ??Strategies to shift your approach to tough scenarios, allowing for more creative solutions ? As we close the current chapter of the Ready, Steady, CONNECT project, it is a perfect time to reflect on the profound impacts we have achieved through collaboration and partnership work. The Ready, Steady, CONNECT project, showcases the significant impact of mentoring and strong community partnerships in supporting young people in Hammersmith and Fulham. The project, a collaborative consortium (SYNC) involving Spark!, 2-3 Degrees, Young Hammersmith & Fulham Foundation, and The Kids Network, focused on delivering mentoring and personal development support to young individuals aged 16-21. This initiative was part of the broader New Deal for Young People, funded by the Mayor of London, aiming to provide mentoring opportunities to disadvantaged young Londoners. Key aspects of the project included: ?? Mentoring:?Young people were connected with mentors who provided guidance, fostering personal and professional growth. ??Personal Development:?Workshops to build confidence and communication to improve academic outcomes. ??Capacity Building:?Support was extended to small local organisations to develop their mentoring capacities. ??Partnership Working:?The success of the project hinged on a strong collaborative framework. Alongside one-to-one mentoring support, young people also benefitted from group mentoring sessions at inspiring organisations like Chelsea Football Club, GSK, MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) , Accenture and JCDecaux. The learning report highlights several successes and learnings, notably the positive changes and personal development observed in the mentees, the benefits of a structured mentoring framework, and the effectiveness of collaborative efforts in community-based projects. ?? “Are you ready to lead change? How will your impact shape the future?” Every decision you make as a school principal can spark a ripple effect that transforms not just your school, but the entire community. 1. Lead with Vision: Set a clear, inspiring vision that aligns students, teachers, and parents toward shared goals. When you create a unified direction, everyone moves with purpose—leading to better outcomes and stronger community ties. Regularly share your vision in school meetings, newsletters, and events to keep everyone engaged. 2. Empower Teachers: Offer meaningful professional development that goes beyond compliance. When teachers feel valued and supported, they bring that energy into their classrooms, creating vibrant learning environments. Create mentorship programs and workshops that reflect teachers’ personal growth and well-being. 3. Engage Parents Actively: Foster two-way communication where parents feel heard, involved, and empowered to support their children’s success. Build bridges, not barriers. Organize interactive parent workshops or forums where parents contribute and learn from school initiatives. 4. Nurture Student Leadership: Encourage student voice and leadership through projects, clubs, and decision-making roles. When students lead, they become active citizens in school and society. Start a student council or peer mentorship program to build leadership skills. 5. Strengthen Community Connections: Partner with local businesses, organizations, and leaders to create opportunities for real-world learning. Host community events or service days that bring the school and local stakeholders together for collaborative projects.

Equitable access to high-quality education is foundational to breaking systemic barriers and, for that reason, is a key focus area of the purpose work we’re focused on at Deloitte. As we approach back-to-school season, I want to share some incredible work behind UnboundEd’s merger with Pivot Learning and its transformative impact on improving instruction in school districts, especially for racially and ethnically diverse students. It’s a story of meaningful collaboration in so many ways: our Monitor Institute, with its deep understanding of social impact-focused organizations, and Deloitte’s commercial M&A practice combining forces on a pro bono basis to support bringing these two organizations together. And UnboundEd and Pivot Learning themselves, serving as an example of amplified impact through collaboration. As a result of the merger, the new integrated UnboundEd is now the largest K-12 educator development organization in the United States—helping to make their equity-centered approach one of the strongest forces in the industry. Imagine knowing that you don’t have to be a product of your environment. Imagine knowing that you have unlimited creative potential of the universe inside of you. Imagine knowing that beyond all thinking blockades, and challenges, there is a path towards the career of your choice. This is the impact of a youth mentoring program on young minds – the distinction between a mind that has acquired these insights and one that has not. Put differently, an informed mind versus one restricted by narrow thinking. An informed mind equates to the freedom to take action towards realizing that career goal. Youth who undergo career mentorship witness a marked improvement in their academic journey. An informed mind unlocks a realm replete with ideas and solutions, enabling the mentee to discern ideal resolutions to their challenges. We have curated an array of mentorship programs aimed at stimulating ambition, nurturing aspiration, and imparting knowledge relevant to specific career paths for our youth, particularly those in high school. These programs will be facilitated by zealous industry professionals, offering valuable perspectives on these careers, the path to attaining them, and the implications of pursuing them as vocations. Be it Law, Medicine, Architecture & Construction, Engineering, Nursing, Public Service, Accounting & Finance, Education, Politics & Government, Aviation, and many others; we have a program coming near you to mentor young adults into careers of your choice. Please see press, soon. "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it" – Proverbs 22:6
