In the fall of 2013 we started running an open gym at Little Bethel Missionary Baptist Church for young men in the neighborhoods around 30th & College. 11 years later things look a little different at The City League but the core goal of using basketball to nurture relationships and build community is still the same. This Giving Tuesday please join us in the work to make an impact on our city through the game we love! https://lnkd.in/em3iNMsK

How can you foster and maintain the spirit of reciprocity and giving more than you take in your community? So here's the thing: community groups involve people giving. There's stuff people get out of being part of them, but they only tend to occur because some people give generously. It works best when *everyone* gives generously with that they have, as there's always something people can give and the spirit it fosters is vital. When it breaks down, there's a sense of freeloading, people just looking after their own interests or people not contributing back to the ideals of the club or community. Various groups try to address this to greater or lesser degrees in different ways. Some formally, some with informal culture. Who does this well? What communities solve this for themselves well. (My head is currently in grassroots sports, but there's loads of different types of community with a similar challenge.) Jono Bacon Sean Longhurst Emily Pitts Cristiano Betta @c

Discovering your role in community capacity building and social change requires us to go inward: Gather your people, in your safe spaces and ask: What does a community that is equitable and just look like to me, and how can I contribute to making it a reality? What relationships in my community could I strengthen or deepen to foster just and equitable, and caring communities? How can I ensure that my work in building community dismantles oppressive systems rather than replicating them? What practices help me stay committed to community building, even when it feels difficult?

Build it and they will come doesn't work when it seems everyone is building. Providing value isn't enough when it's too hard for people to capture said value. Community building is tough, regardless of your experience and knowledge. Why? When it comes to community, you aren't competing with other communities. You are competing with members': - families - rest - work - friends - entertainment - to-do list - vacation You are competing with anything that they could choose over you because when you invite someone into a community you are asking for their time. You need to provide an experience that creates enough of an urge/need that they choose to give you that time over something else. #Community #CommunityBuilding

Albion in Maple Ridge isn't just a place to live; it's a community where neighbours become friends. ?? I’ve seen firsthand how the local community centres bring everyone together - they're the heartbeat of this area! These centres are more than buildings; they're spaces where people connect and create lasting bonds. Why do these centres matter? Here's what I think: 1?? Engaging Activities: From art classes to sports leagues, there's something for everyone. These activities encourage people to come out, have fun, and meet new friends. 2?? Safe Gathering Spaces: Families can enjoy their day without worry. These centres provide a safe spot for kids and adults to gather and play. 3?? Building Relationships: Community events hosted here allow neighbours to connect, share stories, and support one another. It's this spirit of togetherness that makes Albion special. 4?? Support Network: Whether you’re new to the area or have been here for years, having a network you can lean on is invaluable. The centres foster that sense of belonging. Are you looking to move to a place where the community is like family? Albion in Maple Ridge could be your perfect spot. How have community centres made a difference in your neighbourhood? #RealEstate

To identify your values, examine the decisions that you make. If you find yourself always hosting events then you value community. If you can't work in a noisy environment then you value order. If you find yourself unwilling to break any rules then you probably value discipline.

Campaigning for a board Chairmain Position with the CCWM: Congolese Community of Washington DC Metropolitan: DMV). Whish me luck???? Underneath are the three points that makes my foundation. 1. Integrity: My journey demonstrates a strong commitment to ethical principles and transparency in my actions. As the chair of the welcoming committee board at HCHC, I navigated through complex challenges while maintaining honest and responsible conduct. My spiritual connection with God and my involvement in the Hossanna Fellowship in Harrisonburg further reinforce my commitment to high moral values. I firmly believe that integrity is essential for inspiring trust and building solid relationships within the community. 2. Entrepreneurship: My desire to assist every individual or family eager to undertake initiatives reflects my spirit of initiative and passion for entrepreneurship. As the Coordinator of the Technical Assistance Program at Northeast SARE, I managed projects that required both strategic vision and practical execution. I seek to encourage social progress and create opportunities for community members, which reflects my commitment to promoting an entrepreneurial spirit within CCWM. 3. Community Development: My investment in community development is at the heart of my mission. I am dedicated to empowering others and fostering an environment where every member can excel. My experience supervising departments at Farmer Focus demonstrates my ability to maximize operational efficiency, which directly contributes to community development. I believe that the prosperity of the community depends on unity and mutual support, and I actively work towards building a stronger and more dynamic community within CCWM.

My latest blog post: Finding Strength in Community Excerpt: community offers us a way to heal—to share our burdens, celebrate our joys, and find comfort in the presence of others who truly see us. It’s within these connections that we discover resilience, reminding ourselves that we are stronger together than we could ever be on our own... Read here: https://lnkd.in/gQvRw_zQ
