A question on my mind at the moment: Are you giving yourself enough compassion and care? On our webinar this afternoon Leading with Empathy: Cultivating a Compassionate Culture in Times of Change the majority of respondants said NO! ?? By the way no myth of perfection, old habits of not showing myself compassion and care sometimes slip in when I am least expecting it: ? I give too much time and energy to other things and people, not filling my tank properly first. ?? I don't say NO or NOT NOW as often as I should! ?? Not saying some things that probably should be said... keeping it all in. ?? Working when I know I need some rest... thank you food poisoning. When we show ourselves compassion and care: ?? We are role modelling to others how we wish to be treated. ?? We are showing the world we value ourselves. ?? We create real well being for ourselves. ?? We create more compassion and care in our organisations and the world when we show it for ourselves first! I have 2 calls to action for you today: 1. Give youself a hug, wrap your arms around yourself and give yourself a little hug. You deserve it, you're magnificent. 2. Everyone talks about physical restrictions of food but it's equally damaging when we are restricting food mentally. That's a more complex one because technically you are allowing yourself to eat but under so many conditions. Weekend #foodforthought Internal self-awareness Vs External self-awareness We must know when to portray & how to express our own values, passions, aspirations that fit with our environment, reactions (including thoughts, feelings, behaviors, strengths & weaknesses), and their impact on others. On the other hand, understanding how others see us, helps to elevate empathy & taking-in others perspective. Self-awareness is a delicate balance of two distinct, even competing, viewpoints.
