ICYMI: The 2024 White House Summit on STEMM Equity and Excellence took place last week. The STEMM Opportunity Alliance presented a national strategy to build a #STEMM ecosystem of equity, inclusion and scientific advancement by 2050. Over 200 partners were announced, including Lyda Hill Philanthropies of which IF/THEN is an initiative. This strategy aims to: ?expand the STEMM workforce ?encourage innovation ?expand the scientific advancements that are crucial for US competitiveness and economic growth. Travis T. York, Ph.D. discussed the role of narrative change within the STEMM strategy. He shared: "We address real cultural barriers, and as Marian Wright Edelman once said, "It's hard to be what you cannot see." And so, a complement to the substantive pillars of the strategy is a strategic communication capstone. The goal is to reshape who is portrayed as working in STEMM across entertainment media and really drive narrative change."
