Can't help but feel vindicated and yet sad in remembering the disapproval from the 'management' that a Cpl PTi should challenge the norm on this subject. Provided, analysis, evidence and solutions with impact on the loss of recruits to MSKI in basic gunner training in 1997.Managed to implement Interventions in Basic Training that created a ￡1 Million positive change in lost training cost with 12 months and yet still was classed as a renegade trouble maker. Ultimately a potential career unravelled, in part (but not solely) to this frustration and lack of recognition. I felt if my value was not recognised, I'll find a place it will be. Fast forward to 1999/200 my instinct and methods are sharply honed but with the addition of political awareness. Fitness Manager of the Year in 2000 quickly followed in the commercial industry awards for implementing a Retention Program to reduce membership dropout, significantly outperforming industry norms at the time. Sliding doors! It's ok for military instructors to write off this generation, but they must accept some responsibility for the drop out rates. There has always been a need for changing methods to work with different raw materials instead of digging heels in(metaphorically and physically) and saying 'in my day'. The evidence and solutions have been hiding in plain sight for 25 years.What it has done, is developed my drive to use data insights to provide solutions since that day. I might not be so impatient these days too! Today I am still a Proud Veteran who recognised the time to leave!

Actually told to me a few years ago. Please think on this: your team "beat" other teams at a certain competition on a certain day and time. You had so much time and certain equipment with which to work. Most likely, not all teams were there. Winning is fun and a great achievement, but had anything in that short list above changed, the outcome might have been very different. Competition matters because it's about being better than you were yesterday. Your team is different - not necessarily better - than other teams. Its not about "beating" or scoring better than others, especially since most every judge out there is only reacting in a "like/dislike" thought process, which is completely normal! Others may not have facilities to practice or maybe their team can only meet twice a week for a total of three hours. While your team practices 10 hours each week. Do the best you can with what you have, that's all anyone can ask. If you are not doing your best all the time, you have no one else to blame. ??Education is ??! . ??Read your manuals! Advance Training Centres completely changed my life in the most positive way imaginable. And I can list dozens upon dozens of other students who attended ATC & turned their life around by having a sense of structure and discipline in their life. I've seen hundreds of Vanguard Military School students march out too, many of whom were not succeeding in mainstream schools. It's infuriating just how lazy and ignorant some academics and critics of military schools can be, constantly proclaiming that they don't work, as if that somehow proves their point. Rather than getting off their fat behinds and actually going out to see what these institutions are doing up close, they whip up these dodgy, garbage in-garbage out reports that would make even the most One Eyed-Cantabrian look impartial. If we want to produce more business leaders and entrepreneurs in New Zealand, we need more disciplined, motivated young people who can persevere through tough times.
