In March 2023, there were 168,893 charities registered in the UK with a further 20,000 not-for-profit organisations that are not on the register but have charitable status. Isn’t that incredible? Two thirds of retail stock loss is driven by 10% of shop thieves!!!! These persistent and prolific offenders are often caught in the cycle of addiction, and if you don’t tackle the route cause you simply don’t tackle the problem!!! The NBCS foundation raisies money for some fantastic causes that helps and supports those individuals to break the cycle of addiction by addressing its route causation. Every single penny raised at this event will go to those just causes. Monies raised will not go into our profit pot, pay a large bonus to its employees or buy a fancy car. It will be put back into supporting those organisations that will ultimately help our industry. 2023 was a big year for Rareminds as we converted from a Community Interest Company (CIC) to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). As a young and relatively small organisation, this was a strateic decision by our Board to ensure sustainable growth as we pursue our mission to make specialist rare disease mental health accessible for all. Smaller charities are facing incredibly challenging times. The Overlooked and Underfunded report from The Centre for Social Justice states that post pandemic charities expenses have risen by an average of 12%, and income 3%. You don’t need to be an accountant to see that these numbers create an operational headache. Being a trustee I’ve witnesssd the challenges first hand. I know just how much the income is needed to support incredibly valuable community services. Sometimes these services are those that many people think are fully funded, they’re not. One thing I know with certainty is that I’ve never worked with such passionate and resilient Individuals. The future will be a challenge but we’ll work together for change.
