Check out our latest publication! Non-executive directors, members of NEDonBoard, discussed common board challenges and ways to address them at #Birmingham roundtable in late May. ??3 examples: ????#1: Executives, particularly when newly promoted, may not understand their board hat in addition to their operational role. ????#2: Executives may not view the board as value adding. ????#3: Newly appointed non-executive directors may not understand how to engage on the board, and may resort to ‘attack mode’, which can hinder executives form being transparent. ??Find out in the comments how to uncover some more challenges and most importantly, practices that will help you improve board effectiveness and navigate unhealthy dynamics. We are about to learn some things about ourselves and about each other. Here are some folks that we already know some things about. Here are some leaders in the “people space”rushing to celebrate and support and be in proximity to authoritarianism. Your SHRM executives and board of directors. Grifters and cowards. At the very best, grifters and cowards.

Our first LEAD for Woman OC’s in person event 2024 in the books! What an inspiring and uplifting panel Alex, Hassan and Nila. Thank you to this amazing group for putting it together and allowing me to support. A few highlights I took away: -Be authentic to who you are today- that can be different through your carrear. -Always set a personal and professional goal- check progress, use balance model- are you in line. -It’s ok to say No if you know you can give your all- but have an alternative solution or person. -Lead by example- and foster a good work life balance for your employee’s- sometimes work wins and sometimes life wins. BOFA is a great company that offers different ways to support, roles that fit each individual and the ability to excell.
Tonight LEAD for Women Orange County hosted a panel event on the topic Balancing Work & Life. I had the honor of moderating and would like to give a big thank you to our LEAD leadership team for creating this amazing event and our executive panelist, Nila Yousufi, Hassan Abedi and DR. ALEXANDRIA BRAVO for sharing their insights and wisdom! We walked away with so many new tips and ways to continue to honor each phase of our lives. We cannot wait for the next event! A range of expertise is needed to ensure engagement and design go hand in hand. Thanks Fran Horsley for this wisdom during yesterday's webinar on #engagement for #equitable #mobility, an initiative of AITPM - Leadership in Traffic and Transport. Members can watch the webinar on demand here - https://lnkd.in/gUUZFTVt It was great to hear from - Denise Francisco about deliberative engagement and citizen's panels, and their application to the Pakington Urban Design Framework project in Geelong; - Fran Horsley on the myriad ways diverse community members can be engaged on a corridor project when budget allows; but also how delicate social license is and how parallel projects can influence it; and - Elizabeth Irvin on primary engagement methods that can be applied by transport planners to improve #gender #equity on projects, including ride-alongs and intercept surveys. If this is a topic that interests you - AITPM has you sorted with another event coming up in October - see post below. Great to see the coverage engagement is getting among our profession.
Have you read Veronica Davis' book Inclusive Transportation? It made me realise a few things that could be done better on many projects I've worked on. 1. Successful projects need inclusive, quality community engagement 2. Engagement must be embedded in the design process 3. Engagement needs to meet people where they are and especially aim to target those people for whom conventional channels/times are not suitable (the ones most easily overlooked in engagement) Getting engagement right is resource and skill intensive. So how might technical folks and planners better embed inclusive engagement? The answer is probably - not ourselves! IAP2 is a great place to start; but I am also pleased that AITPM is broaching this question with THREE upcoming development events... Tuesday Sept 3 - Lunchtime leadership panel: "Communicaiton & Stakeholder Engagement" https://lnkd.in/gXYprbru Wednesday Sept 4 (online, 12:30pm AEST) - Engagement for equitable mobility (brought to you by the equitable mobility task group) - one I'm pleased to have helped organise along with facilitator Alix Oakes (Stantec), ft. Fran Horsley (Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action), Denise Francisco (Capire Consulting Group) and Elizabeth Irvin (Stantec) https://lnkd.in/g57P6NRF Wednesday 9 October - Transport Love Languages: A Victorian perspective on community engagement for corridor and network planning. https://lnkd.in/gwfFwxhB, ft. Matthew Raisbeck (Infrastructure Victoria), Raelene Stratton (Department of Transport and Planning) and Clare Huggins (Stantec) Looking forward to learning more about listening and engaging with our transport users and those affected by our planning decisions across these webinars. And if you'd like to debrief the book, Inclusive Transportation, with me, I'm only one message away from a coffee catchup to discuss!
