Last week, Antonia Egli and Prof Theo Lynn introduced the #RINNO project at Dublin City University's Engaged Research Festival, which welcomed approx. fifty visitors from Dublin City University’s five faculties and international speakers to celebrate collaborative research engagement with local, regional and national communities. ?? What is engaged research? Engaged research embraces collaborative frameworks that involve both experts and non-experts to foster equitable relationships and amplify stakeholders’ voices in research projects. Engaged research encompasses approaches like collaborative creation, serving communities and the democratisation of knowledge. ? How does RINNO support engaged research practices? Progress in the RINNO project is routed in engaged research. By systematically integrating various processes into a cohesive system for deep renovation processes, RINNO not only facilitates a knowledge repository, but also streamlines the workflow for initiating and implementing deep renovation ventures. The project's commitment to enhancing stakeholder satisfaction, including that of building occupants during the renovation of existing buildings, underscores its effectiveness in translating research insights into practical solutions with tangible benefits for both the industry and the wider community. Looking forward to adding some of these assets to our $3bn asset portfolio at Liverpool City Council ( circa 7bn by 2030 ) We have been working ahead of this asset aquisution having procured the maintenance model of Brightly to look at predictive maintenance Understanding and modelling our exposure during an aggressive growth cycle will be instrumental in understanding lifecycle costs in perpetuity (Bit like when your cousin gives you a great present but you need to buy the batteries for the toy forever) Asset renewals will progress as one of the greatest challenges for growth councils and baselining your portfolio becomes critical - for this reason alone Asset Management Systems are invaluable in quantitative analysis Leveling resources and capital investment will be stage two as we get increasingly closer to first plane / first train ( let’s hope we can get there along 15th Avenue!)

While concluding my M.Sc in Housing Studies from the University of Glasgow a wee while back, I researched on 'Retrofitting the Scottish Housing Stock for Net-Zero' for my thesis. I was able to identify significant clogs-in-the-wheel where retrofitting is concerned, particularly when you factor in the age of the UK housing stock. While the race to provide safe, secure and liveable housing is on, and having lost some of our iconic traditional architecture over the years to demolition and urban renewal practices, (Scottish tenements come to mind), we must begin to look past the obvious obstacles to retrofitting and start thinking about how we can better conserve and preserve our architectural heritage. Thanks to forums like this one by ECD Architects Ltd, we can begin having these essential conversations about retrofitting regardless. The more we start speaking about this, the ripple effects will begin to materialise; we are protecting our environment, reducing carbon emissions, preserving architecture and saving history. #SocialHousing #Housing #CarbonEmmissions #Conservation #Architecture #NetZero
