OneGoal is hiring for a Quantitative Research Assistant – Temp, Part-Time position (10 hours week/$40 hour) focusing on: - Conducting Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) on survey datasets to investigate the underlying structure of the scales. - Using Item Response Theory techniques (i.e., two-parameter graded response models) to investigate the reliability and validity of the survey subscales. - Conducting differential item functioning analyses on the survey scales based on sociodemographic and academic characteristics (e.g.,?racial/ethnic identification, grade level, college generation status, access to early college coursework). - Investigating the extent to which the survey data changes over time using techniques such as dynamic control/p-charts. - Providing a final report containing a summary of findings and a set of practical recommendations for improving the structure of the survey scales, as well as clear documentation of analyses and results. The annual CES in Las Vegas has wrapped up, once again showcasing a range of fascinating innovations. Here's what I wanted to highlight: Back in 2020, acoustic metamaterials were introduced at CES, a technology I had the chance to contribute to (as tradition goes, I’ll drop a link in the first comment,). Interestingly, this breakthrough had its roots almost several years earlier and stemmed from a completely different idea. This brings me to an important point: hardware projects often take much longer than software ones. For many in natural sciences, this extended timeline can be demotivating. MVPs and subsequent iterations can take years, and climbing the TRL ladder is a slow and resource-intensive process. As a result, R&D professionals, whether in academia or industry, can find themselves in the same role or company for years without seeing significant results to proudly feature on their resumes. And that’s a challenge because career advice often stresses showcasing measurable achievements and quantifiable impact in your CV. So, it’s not about how hard someone works. Sometimes the progress is slow, or the outcomes don’t align with initial expectations (which, by the way, is still a valid and valuable result). You might think, “Just be honest and list it as is,” but let’s face it, this might not look as impressive compared to, say, a software developer who rolls out visible updates more frequently. So, what’s the takeaway? Don’t lose motivation if you don’t achieve the desired results.
