Do USA colleges outprice students? In 1980s the studies suggested: "As a best estimate for public policy purposes, a $100 tuition price increase appears to be associated with a 0.6 percentage point decline in the 18-24-year-old participation rate and an enrollment decline of 1.8 per- cent, ceteris paribus." ($100 then is more than $300 in today's money).

Prior to the announcement on tuition fees, we felt something had to give and wanted to understand how The Student Room Group community would feel if fees increased by 5, 10, 15 or 20%. ? Which means, we have some hot off the press insight that is now pretty bloomin pertinent! ? We asked "Theoretically, if tuition fees rose by the following amounts, would you still make / have made same decision to attend university?*" and at a 5% increase we found ? - 77% of respondents said they would still attend - 16% are now not sure - 5% said they would change their mind and not attend ? We will be looking to break down the data by region and whether their parents/carers attended university, so keep an eye out. ? *763 responses from The Student Room Community members: Prospective UK UG students in Y11, Y12, Y13 or current 1st year UK UGs (31st Oct - 4th Nov 2024). Great foresight Beth Wiles :) For any more insights or to engage with students where they discuss these issues, get in touch!

According to the Warrap state minister of education, 2,790 students recently sat for the senior four examinations of the 2023-2024 academic year. Out of these, 1,459 students passed while 1,048 did not. Tonj south county led the performance rankings, followed by Gogrial west County. Surprisingly, Akon secondary school in Gogrial west county had no students passing the exams, highlighting a critical issue that demands attention. The overall performance of Warrap state, graded at 61% as C+, sheds light on the state's educational trajectory. The deterioration of the teaching profession, attributed to low wages, poor infrastructure, and a lack of discipline from parents and students, has contributed to these concerning results. The call for government investment in education is urgent to ensure the production of the quality workforce necessary for both present and future needs. These results underscore the importance of addressing the challenges facing the education sector to secure a better future for students and the state as a whole.
