SPOTLIGHT ON STAFF: CLARENCE MCDOWELL A DEDICATED DSP AT LAVENDER FIELD APARTMENTS Clarence McDowell has been a cornerstone of the Lavender Field Apartments team since it opened 2.5 years ago. As a part-time second-shift Direct Support Professional (DSP), Clarence’s passion for his work shines through in his interactions with both residents and staff. “I love working here,” he shares. “I like the staff and absolutely love the residents.” One resident, Charlie, eagerly waits for Clarence outside the building each week when his shift starts. “He knows my schedule!” Clarence laughs. A typical Monday for Clarence includes taking residents to pottery class at the JCC, followed by a grocery shopping trip. On weekends, you can often find him taking a group out for breakfast at Dunkin’ Donuts or the International House of Pancakes—special outings that bring joy to everyone involved. During the week, Clarence works full-time as a local truck driver for Maine Oxy in South Windsor, delivering gases, a role he’s held for four years. Before that, he spent thirteen years delivering milk for Guida’s Dairy in New Britain until COVID-19 disrupted the dairy industry. When asked how he learned about Favarh, he said his daughter, a former Favarh assistant manager, encouraged him to attend a job fair, leading him to discover his role as a DSP. Clarence lives in Manchester with his wife of 20 years, Christie. His family includes four grown children. When he’s not working, Clarence enjoys resting or tagging along with Christie on her shopping trips. His dedication to family, community, and the residents at Lavender Field Apartments exemplifies the spirit of Favarh. Thank you, Clarence, for your commitment and care! The jobless rate in the CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion region was 4.5% in June, up 0.7 percentage point over the month [...]. Rusty Skinner, CareerSource CLM’s chief executive officer, noted that the bump in the jobless rate and number counted as unemployed is in line?with what the region typically experiences moving into the summer months with seasonal shifts in education support and agriculture employment, as well as an influx of post-secondary students returning to the area looking for summer jobs before going back to school. “What we’re experiencing at this time of year is a typical summer slump; it is not unique to our region nor to any other area in Florida for that matter,” he said. “That doesn’t mean we take our foot off the gas; we know businesses are eager to hire which is why we strive to connect them with those looking for work.” Skinner pointed to two such opportunities: the Summer Job Fair that takes place Tuesday, July 23 from 5-7 p.m. at Howard Academy Community Center in Ocala, and the Citrus County Regional Job Fair set to take place at the College of Central Florida’s Citrus County Campus on Aug. 27. Both are free and open anyone in Citrus, Levy or Marion counties. Read the full news release: https://lnkd.in/dTbbupRn #JoblessRate #OcalaEmployment #CareerSource

Above and beyond is an understatement.
This past Monday, Boca Woods proudly hosted the Florida Atlantic University Job Fair, welcoming aspiring hospitality professionals. Our team, alongside representatives from neighboring Country Clubs, engaged with talented individuals throughout the event. Over lunch, provided by Chef Jeff Terentieff and his team, attendees enjoyed inspiring stories from our leaders - Nicole Thompson, aPHR, Michelle Benitez, Kimberly Weber, Michaela Berinato, and Jordan Findlay. The day ended with a dynamic "speed dating style" interview session with each Club. Big thanks to Adriane W., Nicole Thompson, aPHR, JB Ward, and FAU for organizing this impactful event. ? Had a great day at the QEII Centre attending the Security Cleared job expo. No doubt the first job fair of many as I enter my final 15 months. Some key takeaways & tips: 1. Everyone is approachable, go for it. Use the time to build confidence speaking to people from outside of the military??. 2. Prime some questions, ask for advice. I was able to enquire about CV criteria, content & shaping… what courses I could use ELCs on that would be of benefit… do you have flexible / hybrid working etc etc. 3. Preview the event line up, and target the employers you are interested in as soon as you get in. If your time is limited, use it wisely. I spent 3 hours in the event, 30 mins of this was spent speaking to, and fact finding with the first company I wanted to see. 4. My final point is…. Get used to the freebie hoovers! There will be a few that have zero interest in communicating with the stands, and more often than not can be seen with a tote bag brimming with stress balls, water bottles, pens & note pads whilst their pockets are overflowing with chocolates!
