I'm so pleased that after four incredible years, Allison Lucas will defend her Ph.D. dissertation in Organizational Communication and Urban Sustainability, on July 15. Post-dissertation, Allie will extend this work through her new position at New York-based CIV:LAB, where she will continue helping entrepreneurs in the climate and sustainability space in "the real world." ?? ?? ?? Here's a summary of her dissertation abstract: As the world faces the ongoing and intensifying impacts of climate change, a group of innovative changemakers known as climate tech entrepreneurs (CTEs) are working on climate adaptation, mitigation, and/or resilience efforts by bringing innovative technologies to the global market. CTEs require external funding support, especially during a crucial period of the start-up lifecycle known as the “valley of death” between development and commercialization. Venture capital investors (VCs), a critical source of funding in this period, are of particular importance to CTEs given their role as de facto gatekeepers for climate technologies into the marketplace. This study adopts a process view of entrepreneurship to explore the dynamics of relationship building and tension management to understand how CTEs engage in compliance gaining with VCs. In-depth, semi-structured interviews with 21 CTEs provided the data for this qualitative study. Findings highlight the variety of resource, identity, relational, and impact-related goals of CTEs. The plans they generate and the actions they implement in pursuit of these goals come together to form a matrix of communicative actions, such that the Goals-Plans-Actions process is recursive and dynamic. Additionally, throughout this process, a variety of tensions become salient, which are framed by CTEs as contradictions, complementary dialectics or double binds, and managed via a typology of tension management techniques. I hope you're able to join us for the public portion of Allie's dissertation defense, either in-person or via Zoom. #climatetech #sustainability #entrepreneurship #climatetechentrepreneurs #organizationalcommunication #communicationmatters
We are wishing Allison Lucas good luck as she prepares for her PhD dissertation defense next month! Join in on July 15 in Manoogian Hall or online via Zoom to cheer her on.

Yes. Agreed. In Tamil Nadu, India, leaders like Kamaraj, a former chief minister for the Tamil Nadu state, recognized the critical importance of education in combating poverty. They made significant investments in establishing schools in every village, complemented by innovative programs like the noon meal scheme, which provided nutritious meals to students and encouraged attendance. The current government has continued and expanded these initiatives, affirming education as a fundamental right for all. Kudos to them. Nobel laureate Amartya Sen has also championed the idea that education is the cornerstone of development, highlighting how knowledge empowers individuals and communities to lift themselves out of poverty. He convincingly argues that the true cure for poverty lies in financial aid and equipping people with the skills and knowledge that education provides. This vision of education as a transformative and liberating force is essential for sustainable development.
Sir Arthur Lewis originally wanted to be an engineer but as a young man in Saint Lucia, a British colony, in the 1930s he was not able to because of the colour of his skin. Instead, Lewis went on to study economics. He was particularly interested in the problems of developing countries and in 1979 was awarded the prize in economic sciences for pioneering research in this area. Learn more: https://bit.ly/37xisu1

It is sad coment on the lack of education students have about Western Civilization in comparison to the Islamic Civilizatton. They are so stupid that many believe that HAMAS supports and the Islamic Civilization support freedom of Speech, assembly and religion. It does not but leave it to these Western-privileged children to use their Western Privileges to support Islamic Totalitarianism. They are ignorant or purposefully anti-American, enemies of our Constitutional Republic—America. So why is Israel a prosperous nation--not for its oppression of others but for adherence to Western principles and Beliefs. Their success, gained despite Islamic Hostility encircling the entire state of Israel, is why they are hated and opposed by the Islamic world. It is envy and hatred for a civilization far superior to Islam that lies at the heart of Islam's war with Israel and beyond. the world, now unfolding in America due to the Implanting of multiculturalism over the American creed. Many American haters know not that in fact they are--Westerners--the privileged Westerner The American Constitutional Republic will be lost if the American citizen does not reclaim his dominant position in deciding the future of our American Constitutional Republic. In doing so, the American Citizen must bring forth the principles the underly our Western Civilization, demanding that Western principles are again taught throughout our educational system, and these principles dominate American policymaking. The flying of the Ukrainian flag or any other nation's flag in the People's House be forbidden in favor of America and our American Flag Below are some of the principles created by our ancestors that made for our American Constitutional Republic, a Republic based on Western Principles and beliefs, the most successful political creation in humankind's history—empirically proven as Superior in developing liberty and prosperity. HANDS DOWN! It is the Western people who developed the principle of representation. Government of the people, by the people, for the people; the Western world developed the principles and practices of political liberty, freedom of thought and conscience, and freedom of speech and expression. It evolved to what we call "civil rights" that do not exist today in much of the world--go see for yourself! They were developed and sustained and conveyed to the world. While we often fail in aspirations, we always strive for them. That is our challenge to continue to strive for a more perfect union" not to destroy the Western civilization to trade in for Islamic TYRANNY! In turn, adherence to these Western principles led to the world's most successful means of commerce- a system of free, for the most part, market capitalism that has lifted more than a billion people out of poverty. People have benefited from the Western commercial system, which improves lives worldwide.

I'm a huge Seinfeld fan. I loved watching his commencement address for Duke's 2024 graduating class. Half comedy routine / half serious advice (delivered with humour). https://lnkd.in/ekmK5wDG Below are a few takeaways that resonated with me (all direct quotes from his address): "Three Real Keys to Life: 1. Bust your ass. 2. Pay attention. 3. Fall in love. Find something where you love the good parts and don’t mind the bad parts too much. Work. Exercise. Relationships. They all have a solid component of pure torture, and they are all 1,000% worth it." "Privilege: Privilege today seems to be the worst thing you can have. We’re embarrassed about things we should be proud of and proud of things we should be embarrassed about." "Work Is Wonderful: Don’t blame work. I definitely will not be looking back on my life wishing I worked less. If that’s not how you feel at work. Quit." "Don’t Lose Your Sense of Humor: Humor is the most powerful, most survival, essential quality you will ever have or need to navigate through the human experience."?
