OVER 1,500 SEEDLERS: SNAU IMPLEMENTS A GRANT FROM THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC ???? ?? Saplings of tree and shrub species, provided for by a grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, were planted at the Sumy Technical College of SNAU. Planting saplings is one of the components of fruitful cooperation between MENDELU (Mendel University in Brno) and Sumy National Agrarian University (SNAU). For a long time, representatives of SNAU and Mendel University worked out ideas that could be implemented together. As a result, they received funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic for the implementation of the project “The social and ecological significance of urban green spaces from the point of view of the water cycle, changed by global climate change – cooperation in education and research between the Mendel University in Brno and the Sumy National Agrarian University.” The Czech side fully financed the grant for the implementation of the project to solve social and environmental problems. Funds were allocated for: internships for our students and scientific and pedagogical staff, research using the latest equipment, and most importantly, we participated in the selection of tree and shrub species adapted to the climatic conditions of the Sumy Oblast. ?? Bridging Art and Science in Biotropica’s Special Issue on Fungi Fungi play a key role in shaping the structure, dynamics, and composition of plant communities in the tropics. Their interactions with plants, animals, and microorganisms are essential for understanding the resilience of tropical biota in a changing world. This year, Biotropica will release a special issue exploring the diversity, ecology, evolution, and conservation of fungi in tropical ecosystems and their interactions with other organisms. The cover artwork for this issue was created by Alejandra Pérez-Enríquez as part of her internship supported by the Maxwell/Hanrahan Foundation. This internship was a unique opportunity for her to integrate art into her formal scientific training, expand her portfolio as an artist, and lead a workshop at the 60th Annual Meeting of ATBC in Rwanda (2024). By bridging science and art, research becomes more accessible, engaging, and inspiring, fostering a deeper understanding of tropical ecosystems and encouraging new ways of communicating science. ?? ?? Attended a Workshop on "Cultural Ecology of Environment and Climate Change: Learning from the Past for a Sustainable Future" ?? As a computer science student, I’m always looking to expand my knowledge and apply my skills to interdisciplinary challenges. I recently had the opportunity to participate in a thought-provoking workshop focused on the intersection of cultural ecology, environmental change, and climate sustainability. ?? **Key Takeaways**: - Understanding **Cultural Ecology**: How past human-environment interactions have shaped societies and ecosystems. - Exploring **Indigenous Knowledge**: Traditional ecological practices that promote sustainable resource management. - Learning from **Past Civilizations**: How the lessons of the Mayans, Sumerians, and other ancient societies can inform modern sustainability practices. - Gaining insights into **Climate Change**: Understanding the historical and current impacts of climate change on ecosystems and societies. - Recognizing the importance of **Sustainable Development**: Creating solutions and technologies that minimize environmental impact while ensuring long-term viability.

??Groundbreaking Discovery and Research ?? Part two of the The Guardian seminar series highlights the University of Derby’s #brilliance within Research. Michael J Sweet and Dr Jamie Craggs FLS, experts in Marine science discussed the work they have undertaken to save the coral reefs and make headlines across the world with their pioneering coral breeding programme in Derby. #derbyuni is helping restore reefs on a global scale, using bespoke custom-made tanks, the research team has encouraged more than 50 different types of coral to spawn across the whole year, rather than in just one month as they would do in nature. This #brilliant break-through is major in tackling global environmental challenges and has made the university a powerhouse in this area of marine science, despite being landlocked. To learn more about how this has been applied to tackle the world’s environmental issues, please read the article here: https://lnkd.in/ewSgqvw5 This type of ground-breaking research and discovery is one of the ways in which we engage with our community and make a difference on a global scale. It contributes to our #excellence and makes us proud as an educational institution.
