In Los Angeles, Board and Care facilities play a critical role in addressing homelessness and supporting mental health. These homes provide more than shelter; they offer stability, care, and a path toward healing for some of our most vulnerable neighbors. Through our #HomeIsHope campaign, we’re shining a light on the importance of these facilities and the role they play in creating a compassionate and connected city. Today is both World Mental Health Day and World Homeless Day. At Look Ahead, we offer care, support and housing to a range of people, many of whom have mental health needs and/or have either been at risk of, or experienced homelessness. To mark the occasion, we’ve compiled a new blog with a few special updates, these include: 1) Our plans to trial a ground-breaking new mental health support service based on the world-renowned "Trieste" model in partnership with the East London NHS Foundation Trust. 2) Plans for more inclusive therapeutic dance sessions as part of our AnyBody Can Dance project with new funding from Arts Council England. 3) Our expansion of talking therapies across our services supporting people with experience of homelessness. October 10th is #WorldHomelessnessDay and #WorldMentalHealthDay. Today we recognize two critical global issues - homelessness and mental health, both of which are deeply interconnected. Homelessness is not a personal failure, it’s a systemic issue that requires empathy and action. In the quiet corners of our communities, there are families grappling with the heavy burdens of trauma. Yet, despite the weight of their struggles, the basic support they desperately need is often just out of reach. We believe that the road to mental wellness begins at home with practical support, such as decluttering and deep cleaning. These actions are more than just chores; they are the first, essential steps toward healing and stability. However, startling data reveals a disheartening truth: vast amounts of government funds are funneled into interventions that, rather than lifting these families up, often bring them no substantial relief. It’s time to challenge the status quo and redirect these resources towards positive, practical support systems. We must raise our voices! It is unjust that those in vulnerable positions are overlooked and under-supported. Every family deserves to thrive in a nurturing environment, yet many are denied this basic right. ?? This is the core of our mission. We exist to speak out, to step up, and to secure the early intervention supports that can truly make a difference. ? Let’s unite for the cause. Let’s demand better. For support, justice, and the dignity every family deserves. #MentalWellness #JusticeForFamilies #SupportNotStigma #EarlyIntervention #SpeakUp #ChangeMakers #CommunitySupport #FamilyRights

Homelessness is a complex issue with many contributing factors, including mental health. During "Homelessness Awareness Month," we want to recognize the intersection of these two components. The Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program with OhioGuidestone provides comprehensive support for individuals experiencing serious mental illness who are unsheltered. Our ACT teams work closely with clients in community settings rather than hospitals and clinics to address their unique needs in a comfortable, familiar environment while helping them build a stable, fulfilling life. Learn more about ACT programing and how we’re making a difference in the lives of our unhoused neighbors. https://lnkd.in/gFaP8rpw
