An interesting paper published in April exploring the increasing involvement of private equity investment in health care delivery in Australia between 2008-2022. The paper calls for more research on this trend given the negative experiences of some health care consumers engaging with private equity owned health care facilities in other countries. Maybe private equity and health care don't belong together given it is very hard to find examples of winners after the two combine? Quality health care requires human care not extracting every last dollar out of cost cutting initiatives (detracting from the experience of both consumers and providers) in order to be able to on-sell at profit in 3-7 years.

Interesting read in a couple of dimensions. First is the honesty that without showing a way to see real ROI on these sorts of programs, they aren't going to be more than performative buzzwords or "pilots". Second is one that really applies to anything data driven these days...how to actually gather real data to support findings, especially when the data is sensitive/protected (PII, HIPAA), or must be collected from communities who might be hesitant to provide it.
Health equity must no longer be addressed solely through charity-based efforts and pilot programs. We believe making health equity a sustainable business priority is now a business imperative. Our report led by Tej Shah and Lee Stuck with support from Duane Elliott Reynolds, Lee Swartz, CPA, Abby Schur and Bridget Halleran explores the current state of health equity in health plans and outlines the path towards a sustainable, data-driven approach: https://lnkd.in/gBBS6Ywj
