For the past few decades, there’s been a significant push for students to enroll in a four-year university immediately after high school. But according to a recent survey, almost 70 percent of parents would support their children entering the workforce right after high school. For #WIWTK, I had a great conversation with Mark C. Perna to discuss whether college is the best path for students to have successful careers. Join the conversation here: https://bit.ly/41qhkCQ

"Higher education has a PR problem." Has the college experience become transactional? "Invest in this diploma, we'll give you success." It was a great marketing campaign in the 1970s, but it launched the skills gap that now exists. As you watch the clip, keep an eye out for the data point regarding retail price college tuition (*not accounting for financial aid): $104,108 for in-state schools $223,360 for private, nonprofit schools Even WITH financial aid of 50% of the cost, that's still a HUGE chunk of change. The conversation regarding the skills gap has shared many positive elements to the trades and the conversation isn't that "college is bad" because it's not. It's simply an opportunity for the collective to understand the value and importance of the trades.
