That's shipping?????Canada and Greenland (and accordingly Denmark) control the Northwest route, which will become one of the world's largest shipping routes as glaciers melt. Without the support of the United States, Canada cannot defend against Russia, another territorial claimant. The third installment in our Baltimore Key Bridge Collapse series (see Part I and Part II) examines the short- and long-term Eastern port impact, including the temporary increase in cargo volume and the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) outlook on demurrage charges following the collapse.

This multi-year program was a collaboration between the Colorado Department Local Affairs, the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, and most importantly, the participating local government teams. The resulting economic development roadmaps and funded projects were truly community driven, created region-wide benefits, and established new partnerships.

The Panama Canal is critical to world commerce and U.S. National Security. The article highlights the importance of fresh water to replenish Lake Gatun, which allows the canal to function properly. A solution that the Panama Canal Authority is contemplating (building a dam that would flood some lands to help ensure Lake Gatun has access to sufficient levels of freshwater) has some parallels to hard decisions made by the Tennessee Valley Authority during its early history. Transit fees from the canal are a significant source of revenue for Panama and thousands of jobs are dependent on the canal. In the end, a healthy canal helps ensure a good quality of life for many Panamanians, keeps prices lower for goods in the U.S. given the savings in transit times, and provides the United States Navy the logistical advantage when deploying resources around the World.
