There are alternatives to arresting people that communities can act on now. Communities that are making progress share key strategies, which include: ?? A shared, community-wide definition of what solving homelessness looks like and the belief that it’s possible ?? A collaborative, community-wide team that is accountable and working together as a command center ?? Comprehensive, real-time, by-name data on who is experiencing homelessness to continuously track progress and improve system performance ? A racial equity focus to overcome racial disparities ?? Investments to address a nationwide shortage of safe, deeply affordable homes Learn the facts and stay up to date with the Johnson v. Grants Pass case: https://bit.ly/3xmp8dv

?? Together, We Can Create Lasting Change in Our Communities! Change starts at the grassroots level, and we all have a role to play. When we engage with local government and collaborate with community leaders, we build stronger, more resilient communities that benefit EVERYONE —especially those who are often overlooked, like justice-involved individuals. By showing up, lending our voices, and taking action, we ensure that policies are inclusive, and services and opportunities are accessible for all. Let's make it a priority to advocate for programs and initiatives that address the unique needs of every community member, from housing and employment to support for individuals transitioning out of the justice system. We have the power to shape the future of our neighborhoods. When we work together, we uplift each other and create a society where everyone has a second chance. ?? Get involved. Engage with your local representatives, attend community meetings, and support reentry programs that help create brighter futures for justice-involved individuals. #SouthernMissouriReentry #Reentry #CommunityEngagement #LocalGovernment #SocialImpact #ReentrySupport #SecondChances #InclusiveCommunities #GrassrootsChange #JusticeReform

Is investing in reentry programs and services is a community issue? Investment from the community in programs and services that support individuals reentering society after being incarcerated is a significant concern for the community. By assisting those in the process of transitioning back into society, communities can reduce the likelihood of re-offending, enhance public safety, and create a more inclusive and supportive atmosphere for all residents. Take a few moments to read an article by Thrive Communities that discusses this very topic. Humane and effective policy! A must read!
Delighted to share my newest piece, a collaboration with the amazing Hanna Love at Brookings and Tahir Duckett at Georgetown, which uplifts why criminalizing homelessness will make our communities LESS safe... and, importantly, how we can innovate policies that help all people thrive. As punitive policies continue to sweep communities nationwide, more evidence of Grants Pass having its expected effect, the timing couldn't be more critical to provide all state, local, and federal lawmakers with real data and real solutions to create genuine community safety. https://lnkd.in/eh2S9Zuc https://lnkd.in/eh2S9Zuc

It's inspiring when individuals take the initiative to create safer, more connected communities. One remarkable story illustrates how simple actions can foster a sense of belonging and trust among neighbors. By focusing on proactive measures, like organizing community events or creating safe spaces, we can transform our neighborhoods into supportive environments. Each of us has the power to make a difference, no matter how small our contributions may seem. The beauty of community engagement lies in the collective effort—it encourages dialogue, promotes understanding, and strengthens our bonds. What are some ways you’ve worked to cultivate a more neighborly atmosphere? Share your own experiences, and let's spark a conversation about how we can uplift our communities together. ?? https://lnkd.in/ewmCSAfm

Whilst I applaud Natalie Campbell MBE vision, no one person, community, foundation, charitiy etc is going to end homelessness as a whole. Whether this be youth homelessness or homelessness as a whole. You have entrenched homelessness, people who do not want to be found, people who have a community on the street that keeps them safe etc. This is across all ages and do not forget that the average life expectancy of men on the streets is 47 and for women it is 43. Would it not be more beneficial to say ‘working with charites, frontline workers, hostels, communities, neighbourhoods etc we can all work together to help reduce youth homelessness’ Continually hearing the empty, frustrating and meaningless statement ‘end homelessness’ is disresepctful to all the work that everyone puts in to help this community. How about shining a light on initiatives, projects, charities, foundations etc who are making a change and difference. Also on every single person working in this sector who wants to help, its in their DNA to give a hand to help someone up. #youmakeadifference #YOUmakechange CEO Sleepout UK

Good Homes and Happy Neighbourhoods, it’s what we all want right? In the full video I share my CEO’s approach to make this goal a reality. And, I commit to ending youth homelessness in my first term. Homelessness is a political choice, with your vote you can choose a new Mayor that takes accountability for bringing it to an end. Through listening, responding, considered action and meaningful partnerships (of course). The time is now. All it takes is 1.5 million votes. #TeamCampbell #Vote #MayorofLondon #IndependentCandidate

Today’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Grants Pass v. Johnson reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of homelessness and how to solve it. With its ruling, the court has effectively criminalized people who are unhoused. Instead of criminalizing people experiencing homelessness, we need: ?Civilian-staffed and community-centered responses, services, and infrastructure ?A well trained and resourced public safety workforce ?Commitment to a Housing First statement ? Investment in affordable housing “If we as a society are serious about reducing the number of people who are unhoused, we need to move past the criminalization of survival activities and focus on proven, effective solutions that will create stronger and safer communities.” —Daniela Gilbert, director of Vera’s Redefining Public Safety initiative Read our full statement: https://lnkd.in/eJZKWd7E #SCOTUS
