Tetris is arguably the perfect video game, and it's a shame we don't see its mechanics tweaked more often. A new indie called Flowstone Saga is trying to put its own spin on the classic block drop by integrating it into a JRPG battle system, and the results look very impressive.Flowstone Saga's Steam page takes pains not to mention Tetris by name, but the classic puzzler is an obvious influence. Have you ever packed your car trunk so well, you had to step back and admire the organization? That's called the "Tetris? Effect" and it's when you put things together in an organized order, usually interlocking. The game from which the "Tetris? Effect" comes was introduced in 1984. Computer programmer Alexey Pajitnov created Tetris?, inspired by the puzzle board game Pentominos. In this electronic game, players arrange falling pieces in real time. It features seven unique geometric shapes, each composed of four squares. Pajitnov named it "Tetris," blending "tetra" (Greek for "four") and "tennis," his favorite sport. According to their website, "[b]illions of Tetris games are played online every year, and over 520 million units have been sold worldwide."
