However, behind every excavation site and preservation effort lies a crucial factor: funding. I remember when I was interviewing Dr. Victor Sava, I asked questions about the fortification, and too often, his answer was, "We don't know yet; we don't have enough funding to find that out." One of my favorite aspects of the "Santana Cetatea Veche" documentary still remains the part about the reality of conducting an archaeological excavation. #Archaeology #documentary

The Wiki Takes Archaeology event in the Spanish provinces of Burgos and Segovia brought together archaeologists, historians, photographers, and local volunteers to document rural and archaeological heritage. Participants captured images of sites in Guzmán and Bernardos, all now freely available to everyone on Wikimedia Commons. The initiative was a collaboration between Wikimedia Espa?a and OpenStreetMap to map these sites for future reference. Participants reflected on how the event not only enhanced heritage documentation, but also fostered collaboration between local communities and free knowledge platforms.
