#Energy and critical minerals are intricately linked, especially in the context of renewable energy technologies and electrification. Critical minerals refer to elements or materials essential for the development of high-tech products, including renewable energy systems like solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicle batteries. These minerals often face supply chain challenges due to geopolitical factors, environmental concerns, and the complexities of extraction and processing. Here are the country's dominant strategic mineral supply chains #China #Australia #Chile #Lithium #RareEarths #NaturalGarphite #Cobalt #Lithium #SustainableEnergy #Sustainability #StrategicMinerals

CCS at the ultimate scale required to make the Humber Net Zero Proposal worthwhile in global warming reduction terms is a pipe dream. The Equinor proposal will see natural gas powered CCGT being converted to run on Blue Hydrogen. Why? Both from an energy output and cost of power exported these are both lose lose proposals for consumers, unless you're telling us that the cost of exported power from Triton will be less than the equivalent natural gas fuelled cost? Will it be? This 'project' is solely based on Equinor commercial benefit, through increased sales volumes of natural gas and through the sales value of electricity produced from the proposed Blue Hydrogen. And who is going to transport and inject the CO2 under the North Sea? And can your project 'stand alone' without any of the other elements of the larger Humber Net Zero Proposal? It's clear what's happening here and it's not beneficial for the UK or the rest of the planet. It sends 'all the wrong messages' based on ZERO 'proven in use' operations. Equinor says it wants to support real renewable expansion so why isn't it considering or proposing development of UK Onshore Wind, for instance? That's right. Selling more gas is more profitable.
Equinor’s H2H Saltend low carbon hydrogen production project has been granted planning permission, becoming one of the first of its scale in the UK to achieve this milestone. ?? ? The project is located within the Humber at the px Group's Saltend Chemicals Park , one of the oldest but most carbon intensive facilities in the UK. We hope it will be successful in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero's upcoming (2024) 'Track1 Expansion process' as one of the next 'emitter projects' to connect to the East Coast Cluster's CO2 Transport and Storage infrastructure. This planning consent adds significant credibility to that application. ?? ? https://lnkd.in/eVW3iM4W

Talon Metals is proud to be one of the first companies awarded funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Battery Materials Processing Grants program, for our battery minerals processing plant in North Dakota. This insightful report from the Center for American Progress takes a look at the DOE's equity plan requirement across its grant programs. It highlights how these plans aim to ensure host communities share in the benefits of major energy investments through strategies like workforce training, local hiring, community engagement, and more. #ExxonMobil's offshore #CCS initiative is a notable step in expanding the infrastructure necessary for large-scale carbon storage, an essential component of global decarbonization strategies. While this project primarily focuses on #carbon sequestration, it also opens new possibilities for resource management. The proximity of these storage sites to saltwater reservoirs may create opportunities for integrating CCS with the extraction of critical minerals, such as #lithium and #iodine, which can be recovered from brine. Additionally, the Gulf Coast's infrastructure and expertise in handling large volumes of fluid make it a prime candidate for further technological innovations, including desalination and mineral extraction. This initiative reflects the growing need for scalable, multi-purpose energy solutions that combine emissions reduction with resource recovery. https://lnkd.in/gf7bzhY7

How do you get the rights to build and operate a geothermal generation plant? The answer depends on where you are and how the rights are divided between the surface and the underground. In Texas it was a thorny question, because Texas law divides up surface rights — which include rights to land (say for agriculture) and the groundwater beneath (irrigation & water for people & faming) — and mineral rights (mining & extraction), which govern commodities like oil and gas below the surface.? Add the complication of the fracking boom, that created controversy and division (ugly situations?where mineral rights holders allowed drilling rigs to operate on and pollute lands that they didn’t live on, against the wishes of the people on the site.?And yes, the lawyers and the government were mixed up in this too. So how did they solve that and why even go geothermal? Have a good read and imaging the chaos - but think carefully about that last paragraph because if it is not economic it is not truly sustainable. #geothermal #generation #utilities https://lnkd.in/gFV67SDS

Hart Energy recently quoted a PEP webinar Managing Director Matthias Bloennigen participated in regard the water-handling challenges in the Permian. If you missed the broadcast, click here for the white paper co-authored with Kelly Bennett at B3 Insight: https://lnkd.in/gq6fJ7h5 “If we don’t do any reuse, we are going to have too much produced water,” he said. “In 2029, if we don’t drill enough, we’re going to be running out of disposal capacity.” Even if more disposal capacity is drilled, Bloennigen said he expects the Permian market will become tighter. “That’s why we especially think that the water-handling costs are going to continue to increase as we have seen over the last few years,” he said. According to Bloennigen, this dynamic has changed how operators are thinking about produced water. “Water used to be more of an afterthought,” considered only after the oil and gas strategy had been developed, he said. “Now water will have to be part of the oil and gas development.” #oil #gas #water #sustainability #producedwater #reuse #disposal
