Parents are reading less to their children since the pandemic! In a report by the National Literacy Trust, they found that fewer families are engaging in daily activities which support early language development compared with five years ago. ?? Only 50.5% of parents said they read with their child at least once a day. The National Literacy Trust suggest that the cost-of-living crisis and cuts to funding for early intervention services is likely to have played a significant role in the decline. Early literacy has a profound impact on a child's language and communication skills and developing a love for books and reading early on can have a huge long-term impact. That's why our family engagement programmes, aim to support parents to build awareness and learn new skills around early literacy development.
