While there, they engaged with clients, women-focused nonprofits, and allies dedicated to advancing gender equity in business. These meaningful conversations explored the impact of gender-based policies and how we can collectively amplify the power of women to drive equity and innovation. This morning I joined the Committee on World Food Security to discuss the implementation of the voluntary guidelines on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in the context of food and nutrition security. These guidelines, endorsed in 2023, are the first globally negotiated agreement to address gender disparities and all forms of violence and discrimination against women and girls in the context of food and nutrition security. in pledging UN Women's support for the implementation of the guidelines, I asked Members States to recall that in 1995, 183 governments gathered and adopted the monumental #BeijingDeclarationandPlatformforAction, our blueprint for advancing women’s rights adopted nearly 30 years ago. Thirty years ago, we called for elimination of discrimination against women and girls to address the gender gaps in food and nutrition. Thirty years ago, we called for land rights for women, and for increasing women's access to productive resources. These guidelines are a reinvigoration of that call and it is time to put these promises into action! We must intentionally and comprehensively implement the guidelines, because as history has shown us, a just “add women and stir” approach will not deliver change. ? ? The world's #women and #girls can count on UN Women, to take this agenda forward together so that in 30 years we are not still having the same conversations. From elevating the guidelines in other normative processes including #Beijing+30 to using our coordination mandate to use the guidelines with #UNCTs to integrating the guidelines across our work on #humanitarianaction, #sustainabledevelopment #transformingcare systems #genderresponsivebudgeting #innovativefinance!
