Emphasising the importance of #worldcancerday , it's crucial to underscore that nearly 90% of #cancer patients find support through diverse mechanisms, including government initiatives like Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and Atal Amrit Abhiyan, coupled with funding from entities like the Indian Cancer Society and Mahesh Memorial Trust. Notably, individuals like Lashkar experience positive outcomes through programmes like PM-JAY. Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre CCHRC's statistics indicate that approximately 80% of their patient demographic includes daily wage workers and agricultural and tea garden labourers, with nearly 75% benefiting from cost-free or subsidised treatment. Bridging the Divide in Cancer Care: A Call to Action! A new World Bank and WHO research highlights a grim reality: more than half of the world's population lacks access to vital health care, driving many households into poverty owing to out-of-pocket health costs. Key Findings: Health costs account for more than 10% of 800 million households' total spending. Nearly 100 million people are forced into severe poverty, living on $1.90 or less each day. Income, education, location, and prejudice are all factors that contribute to barriers to cancer treatment. "The Equity Gap is a universal challenge" The fight for cancer care has no borders. Income, education, and prejudice all influence global access, affecting both low- and middle-income countries as well as wealthy nations. While you may believe that the equity gap has no direct impact on your life, it most certainly does influence someone in your network or community. Disparities remain, and closing the gap is a common task that requires community action. It's about me and you;?it's about everyone:)) #CancerCare #HealthEquity #GlobalHealth #ClosingTheGap #UniversalHealthCoverage #WorldHealth #TogetherForChange

I am thrilled that Kenya, under the leadership of Cabinet Secretary for Health, Susan Wafula, will be the pioneering country to officially launch the transformative Cervical and Breast Cancer Coalition of the #WEF Global Alliance for Women’s Health. Breast and cervix together are the two leading causes of cancer-related deaths in Kenya. They also account for 45% of women’s cancers in Low-income countries, and nearly 80% of deaths from these two cancers happen in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs). ? These are not just percentages – these are mothers, daughters, sisters, wives and friends whose lives are cut short by diseases that we have the tools to prevent, detect and treat. ? This Coalition, championed by Siemens Healthineers, is a platform designed to facilitate and encourage collaborations and to bring about meaningful solutions between key stakeholders who are uniquely positioned to accelerate action. ? By working together in a multi-stakeholder approach, we can help women, and therefore everybody on this planet, rise! Title: Urgent Call for Discussant: Exploring Economic Burden and Health Disparities for Vulnerable Populations in LMICs I am excited to announce a special session at the iHEA 2025 Conference, co-hosted with Professor Jin from King’s College London. This session will explore critical economic and health disparities affecting vulnerable populations in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We are urgently seeking a discussant from a low- or middle-income country (LMIC) who can bring valuable perspectives and insights to the session. If you are passionate about health economics and would like to contribute to this important discussion, please reach out to me directly. Your input will be key in shaping a dynamic and meaningful dialogue during the conference. Session Overview: 1-Economic Burden of Tuberculosis in Sub-Saharan Africa: A review of the significant non-medical and indirect costs faced by TB-affected households, and the need for robust cost-of-illness methodologies to guide policy in high-burden regions. 2-Return on Investment for Typhoid Vaccination in LMICs: A cost-of-illness approach demonstrating the economic benefits of vaccination programs, which supports resource mobilization for sustainable immunization. 3-Tobacco Use Among People with Disabilities: An analysis of tobacco usage rates in 29 LMICs, highlighting the need for tailored public health interventions to address intersecting health and socioeconomic disparities. 4-Disability-Inclusive Graduation Program for Ultra-Poor Households in Uganda: Examining how poverty alleviation programs improve healthcare access for marginalized groups and reduce unmet health needs for people with disabilities. We hope this session will foster international collaboration and stimulate crucial conversations that can inform future health policies for vulnerable populations. Join us at iHEA 2025 to learn more and contribute to this vital discussion!

Organon is proud to be the Principal Founding Member of Coalition for Women's Health in Africa (COWHA), a partnership platform aiming to advance Women's Health in Africa, shining the spotlight on diseases that disproportionately affect women, highlighting the unique challenges women face in relation to accessing healthcare and solutions and taking action to address these challenges and barriers, working in partnership with governments and multiple stakeholders, to accelerate and amplify impact. While we have achieved a lot, there is still so much to be done! We invite more stakeholders in other sectors and industries to partner for HER. Covid 19 demonstrated the power of partnership for health across all sectors, including non-health sectors. Women's health requires a similar approach because Women's health is everybody and every sector's issue. It requires multisectoral, multi-stakeholder approach to ensure the healthcare ecosystem is conducive to expand access to care. It is critical to drive investment in order to close the gap in women's health as this is directly linked to improving lives and economies as highlighted in the McKinsey & Company report published in January 2024. Investing in women's health, including investing in family planning or planned parenthood, is one of the strong levers to leverage to achieve Sustainable Development Goals and boost economic development, as it directly impacts girls' and women's ability to reach their full potential, on their own terms. https://lnkd.in/d8Pqn2SM Organon META (Middle East, Turkey & Africa) Organon South Africa #Hereforherhealth ##HerPlanHerPower

#diagnostics #valuechain #women #disparity Though diagnostics is considered a low hanging fruit, developing diagnostics and making those accessible to community is a daunting task with mutiple challenges. I think Industry-academia partnerships working towards common goals along with support from organizations like FIND, WHO would be instrumental in addressing the challenges in diagnostics for a better future.

It's unfortunate to see that in Southeast Asia, the outbreak of Covid-19 could not be contained effectively due to a lack of proper data disaggregation. "In Southeast Asia, the extent to which Covid-19 related health outcomes and socio-economic impacts differ for minorities remains unknown.?" Regular collection and disaggregation of data may enable governments, businesses and other stakeholders to take early actions to avoid catastrophic events before they happen and cause further damage. "In the context of a virus outbreak, this blind spot poses a serious public health risk as it may allow pockets of infection go unnoticed and spread more widely." Data has become a formidable tool not only to drive business decisions but also to alleviate the mortality rate among ordinary folk in a life-and-death situation like this. #data #covid19 #southeastasia
