Having designed and delivered multiple simulation events in my career as an educator of nurse practitioners, I’ve long been beating the drum that we don’t fully deploy this modality to its fullest extent in APRN education. I’m deeply gratified to see this tide turning! I’m especially fond of OSCE-type evaluations (both formative and summative). There is immense educational value in a well-designed and thoughtfully implemented encounter with an expert Standardized Patient. The biggest gap I’ve seen in these events is properly preparing students before, during, and after the event. Simulations are inherently stressful, and can be very anxiety-provoking. Intentionality on the part of faculty to make the simulation as positive as possible is a key to success, alongside quality scenario design and a high degree of organization.?

The update to the Magnet Recognition Program criteria by the ANA Enterprise is a bold step forward for the nursing profession and healthcare industry as a whole. By revamping the criteria for the first time in 16 years, the ANA is signaling a new era of excellence, innovation, and patient-centered care in nursing practice. The updated criteria will likely inspire healthcare organizations to elevate their nursing services, prioritize patient outcomes, support nurse well-being, and promote diversity and inclusion within their institutions. As the nursing profession continues to evolve, the Magnet Recognition Program will serve as a beacon of excellence and a catalyst for positive change in the healthcare landscape.
