A recent report from the Ponemon Institute revealed that while cybersecurity budgets are finally on the rise, they're still lagging behind the disruptions caused by attacks. Alarmingly, 69% of health systems that suffered a cyberattack reported negative impacts on patient care. Meanwhile, an October report from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers highlighted that 41% of state CIOs are uncertain if their teams can tackle all the cybersecurity threats they encounter, with AI-enabled attacks being a particular worry. In the same week, a study found that 44% of healthcare organizations still haven't implemented basic multifactor authentication for remote access, and the same percentage lack a plan for responding to incidents.

Unfortunately, we were visionaries. ? We've gotten that experience in #Covid and are now creatively reworking it. However, the overall tone of this document suggests that we don't yet know how to use each institution's data to improve the system. We don't yet have a precise, correct, and beautiful model. But the strategy emphasizes the CDC's continuing efforts, and that's a thing for labs. Some treat these reports as pesky flies because they don't directly benefit them. But the good of the public and patients, health care done right, is a serious benefit to the lab.
