We’ve all heard the term “IoT” at some point or another and probably wondered, "what does that mean, anyway?” “Isn’t that when your fridge automatically orders milk when you’re running low?” Yeah, something like that. IoT (Internet of Things) is an umbrella term for internet-connected devices that all talk to each other to help get work done for you. And this sector is getting more and more impactful on the world as the underlying technologies become more capable of doing useful things. - IoT is getting huge in HealthTech. The Apple Watch is a consumer example. Patient monitoring devices in hospitals that text doctors is more of an enterprise use-case. - IoT in logistics and warehouse management is going bonkers right now. Boxes in warehouses all have chips that tell robots where they can be picked up & dropped off. - IoT that helps the environment also continues to grow rapidly — smart thermostats to optimize home energy consumption, for example. - IoT is everywhere in farming where smart devices deliver just the right amount of water and nutrients, boosting harvests while slashing waste. What’s super-charging IoT these days is advances in data science & machine learning. It’s made devices 10x “smarter” and more useful than they were even 5 years ago. It’s an interesting segment to look at from an investment standpoint. However, challenges do exist, like security and privacy, which is complex to solve when you have millions or even billions of connected devices. The recent chip shortage didn’t help IoT either. My friend Hugo Borda is a passionate advocate & researcher in IoT. He joins us in his second stint on the Technocratic podcast & gives great insights into the sector. #iot #technocratic

Being the "stupidest" person in the room can actually be a great thing! If you don’t understand something right away… Just Ask. Ask until it’s crystal clear. If you don’t get it, chances are others don’t either. Having the courage to ask and risk sounding "stupid" is often a service to everyone else in the room. In a recent, engaging customer call, I was asked a simple question: Which sensor should I buy? While an immediate answer was expected, I did the opposite—I started asking questions. I asked every detail about the use-case. Twice. I rephrased it in my own words and kept asking to pinpoint the exact problem. This led to two outcomes: 1. We carved out the most optimal solution by cracking the problem statement together. 2. This line of questioning built trust, showing the client we genuinely care. So don’t shy away from asking. None of us are born with all the answers. We’re all here to learn. . . . Asking the right questions sharpens your decision-making in selecting the best IoT sensors. Curious about which questions to ask? Some key ones are listed in the carousel, with deeper explanations in our free recorded webinar here : https://lnkd.in/gn5CxsvT SenRa #IoT #IIoT #SmartCities #Environment #DigitalTransformation

“IT and IoT? Same thing, right?” I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard: “Oh, IoT is just IT with the ‘O’ being silent.” ?? Let me clear the air. IoT isn’t just IT with a quirky nickname. It’s a technological revolution that goes beyond connecting people to connecting the world. Here’s the difference: IT is the backbone of systems: managing, storing, and securing data for organizations. IoT? It brings the physical world online—sensors, devices, and systems that transform data into actionable insights. Think about it. IT might power your company’s email and servers, but IoT powers the smart thermostat in your home, the fleet tracking your deliveries, and the wearables monitoring patient health in real-time. Why does this matter? IoT is not just "bigger IT"; it’s reshaping industries: Healthcare → Remote patient monitoring Agriculture → Smart irrigation systems Cities → Efficient traffic management and energy savings So, to the naysayers: IoT isn’t silent. It’s shouting innovation. P.S. Have you ever heard a tech myth like this? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below! #IOT IoT For All #IT

?? What a Smart Toaster Can Teach Us About IoT (and the Power of YANG) Ever thought about how your toaster could be part of the IoT revolution? Let me break it down in a way that’s both fun and technical enough to make you curious. In the IoT world, managing thousands of connected devices (like your smart thermostat, lights, or even that fancy toaster) can get really complex. That’s where YANG (a data modeling language) steps in. Imagine you could “talk” to a toaster through a network, and here’s how it works with YANG: 1?? Device Description YANG defines what the toaster can do. For example: ? It knows what bread types it can toast: white bread, wheat bread, hash browns, frozen waffles ??. ? It knows how crispy you like your toast, with a scale from 1 (barely toasted) to 10 (burnt to perfection). 2?? Device Commands You can send simple commands, like: ? “Make me toast”: Choose the bread and level of doneness. ? “Cancel toast”: Stop the process if you change your mind. 3?? Live Notifications Your toaster can even talk back! It will let you know: ? “Your toast is done!” ?? ? “The process was canceled.” ? “Error: Toaster is broken.” ?? Why Does This Matter for IoT? The example might seem lighthearted, but YANG is solving real challenges in IoT: ? Standardization: Whether it’s a toaster or a factory robot, YANG provides a common language to describe devices. ? Scalability: It makes managing thousands of devices easier. Think smart homes, hospitals, or even entire cities. ? Automation: No more manual configurations for every device—just program your IoT controller, and YANG takes care of the rest. ? Real-Time Monitoring: Get instant updates and take action when something goes wrong. Why You Should Care From smart homes to industrial IoT, technologies like YANG make our lives simpler and networks smarter. Whether you’re a techie or not, this is the foundation of the connected world we’re stepping into. ?? Let me know—what IoT device would you love to see “smartified”? Or, are you already working on IoT projects? Let’s chat below! #IoT #YANG #SmartDevices #TechSimplified #NetworkingRevolution

What is the Internet of Things (IOT)? We all know the internet as a huge web connecting billions of devices and people worldwide. Now, imagine adding everyday objects—like your alarm clock, your thermostat, or even your sneakers—to that web. Well, basically, that's the Internet of Things. Each of these objects can be embedded with sensors that can detect and measure things like temperature, motion, or even location. These sensors gather data and send it to the internet, where it can be analyzed and used to make decisions or take actions. For example, may of us have a smart thermostat in our homes. It knows when you're home or away based on motion sensors. If it detects that nobody's home, it can automatically adjust the temperature to save energy. And if you're on your way home on a hot day, you can use your phone to tell the thermostat to start cooling the house down, so it's nice and comfortable when you arrive, or automate that process based on location services. You've probably also remember seeing it in its infancy when Nike had a pair of running shoes that connected to their app and provided you with analytics on your exercise. Granted that was a closed system and missed out on the 'internet' part of IOT, but it was one of the beginning consumer conversations of smart devices providing value from data. IoT isn't just about convenience at home, though. It's also being used in industries like agriculture to monitor soil moisture and crop health, in healthcare to track patients' vital signs remotely, and in transportation to optimize routes and schedules. The Internet of Things is all about connecting the physical world to the digital world, making our lives easier, more efficient, and hopefully providing us with more time to enjoy ourselves. #web3 #web3.0 #MachineLearning #Automation #datascience #deeplearning #bigdata #IOT #InternetOfThings #innovation #management #Technology #future #futurism #socialmedia #tech #futuretech #interestingfacts
