What is Tech Diplomacy? Read more below ??

The Tech Diplomacy Academy was brought into my attention during our meet&greet with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO Mircea Geoana. I can genuinely say that the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue team, the creator and leader of the Tech Diplomacy discipline, did an impressive job! So far, they have 17 courses available, and another four will be live in this summer. They cover various topics from our “today”, such as the Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cryptocurrencies, Food Supplies, The Energy Transition, mRNA, Human-Machine Interfaces, and much more (I am very excited to see the course about the Deepfakes that will be offered in this summer). Each courses have three chapters; what is it, how is it being used and where are we on this topic, and the last but not the least: the policy. The course structure helps significantly to build a bridge between the scientists and the policymakers; bringing the risks of the “invention” into the scientists’ attention while educating the policy-makers about the details of the scientific work. I believe that it will reduce the risk of unintentionally creating a “weapon”, while not being judged by the policymakers based on the stereotypes. The courses cover the basics of each topic, and then build a structure on it. They do not require any background or prerequisites, other than the passion to learn about new topics. In summary, it is a well structured course series, and highly recommended, especially if you are interested in learning where we are and our destination as humanity, and the risks & threats against us. The Department's work essentially involves tacit knowledge "transfer" through networking. To stay competitive and wield influence in the less centralized, more horizontal geopolitical, diplomatic environment fashioned by advanced communication technologies, we need a new strategic way forward that trains Diplomats on "smart technology diplomacy" and leverages relationships. Artificial intelligence may become the catalyst technology to tap our collective wisdom and insights, facilitating knowledge transfers across the Department's historically siloed and hierarchical structure.
